still...not...pinning...
    #3331311 - 11/07/04 10:52 PM (12 years, 1 month ago)

They been getting mighty fluffy and now have a bit of a contam on them, but my cats casings still won't seem to pin. They've been in the fruiting chamber a couple days shy of a month after being put in the incubator for 4 to regroup, but they've looked the same aside from a small amount of growth for 2 weeks now. It's actually incredibly healthy looking stuff, but it just keeps building up. She fans them plenty and keeps the moisture where it's suppose to be with some perlite and a few mistings now and then. So do i just need to wait longer or is there something i'm missing...?

edit: the light cycle is about 14 hours light 10 dark, maybe more hours of light in some cases

Do you have light. What do you mean by build up?

what are the temps sounds liek they are to high and if mycelium growth halts this usually means pins are soon to come

optimal temps (74-78 degrees fahrenheit)

yeah, forgot to mention that sorry. temps are actually colder than that sometimes, but usually hover around 70-75.

build up like one patch starts off as a small like ball poking through and develops into a mass ontop taking up a corner. Looks like snow :stoned:

Try dropping your temp down to 72 if you can. At least until they pin. Strop misting if you are using PMP.

yeah good point if you dont mist it may reduce yeilds slightly but it sends the myc into survival mode and it shoots of shrooms quick cause it thinks its gonna die from lack of moisture

-mike

same thing basicly cold shocking does only cold shocking it thinks colder weatehr is coming at thats gonna kill

survival is everything to mushrooms( and most other species for that matter)

um.. survival trigger is when substrate is fully colonized... But I know what you meant. I said stop misting, because misting does this to your cakes...

PMP creates enough humidity that you won't really need to mist. Not misting won't reduce your overall yield if the setup was proper.

I think a month is a really long time to be waiting. Whats your casing mix?

sounds like you have overlay. what is your relative humidity? casings need 85-90% RH

I don't know about humidity, i mist plenty and have perlite in a small container, so it's probably 100% most of the time. And yeah, a month is way too long now that i've really looked around at what peoples times have been. I'm actually getting pins right now on one of them, but it's also getting a contam. Figures. Thanks for the posts guys! I'm just going to keep fanning and keep hoping.

Mine kind of did the same thing, they just *POOF* puffed out and were crazy looking, i just gave them a lot more light and viola, Knots Knots Everywhere. The mycelium tissue needed to stop growing. Ta-Da.

Oh yeah and I misted them and shouldn't have, the perlite kept it ok in terms of humidity, but you probably don't need to mist..infact..you might wanna stop.Waterlogging the mycelium won't help you or your poor fungus.GL, I hope it works out

Alot of misting with the humidity already being at 99% from the perilite can easily cause them to take longer to fruit. They'll come but you should be carful in the future of overwatering. There is a good post in the Archieves under the Casing section VERY detailed about watering. Hyphaes guide is also a must read which is also to the top of the forum. A pic would help us if you can get one up to determine your course of action but waiting it out..the casing should pin soon. Make sure your keeping an eye out for contams as well..especially on the sides and bottom if you can see it.

Yeah, two of them have already fallen to contams now, and still...no pins. I've just given up on them, i'll check them every few days to see if something has died or a pin has formed, but i'm pretty sure they're all just going to die now. It's sad, but life has in store for me many more casings, so i'm not fretting as much as i was.

I just like seeing them grow so much, and not to mention what we get after we pick them... oh well.
