Ramsey Seal - Air Exchange?

How much air is exchanged in a ramsey seal system? I just did 12 1/2 pint jars using this, and now I'm wondering how to increase air circulation... A previous batch had about 5 jars that didn't fully colonize, even after 5 weeks, and I'm attributing it to air circulation... Is it possible / a good idea to inject air into the jars using a syringe? Or should I merely cut off the non-colonized area with a knife and case them together? One has literally half the cake uncolonized, and I do not want to waste any more than I must.. using brf/verm cakes.. Next batch I do I'm going straight verm to filter, had better luck with that... and in aug after I move, I'm using filter discs with birdseed in pint jars, see if that does any better...

What would be the cause of this lack of growth? substrate too dry? I wasn't referring to injecting the cakes with oxygen, just the air above them... using 1/2 pint tall jars (use a mix of tall and wide... going only wide in future)...

Dude- I think you hit the nail on the head with that last post. Your substrate is probably too dry. It happens to me sometimes. Just increase your water content a little. On your next batch, fuck with the water content in each jar. You'll find the right method soon.
