desiccant in Canada
    #3330704 - 11/07/04 07:50 PM (12 years, 28 days ago)

Hey shroomery,

I know that many of you fellow canadians have trouble finding dissicant in Canada. Damp-Rid is very hard to find here if you have tried already, but do not fear, I have found a really good one that is really easy to find.

At Canadain tire, they have this stuff called "ICE MELT" (for melting ice duh), which is just calcium chloride flakes (CaCl2). If you don't know already, damp-rid also just pure calcium chloride. It costs $7 for 6 pounds, and you can re-use it too.

Hope this helps someone,

Btw this site rules, all of the great logs and teks are great for a budding mycologist, yay! I know a lot of you spend a fair amount of time posting here to educate other people, which I would be far to lazy to do. So thank you shroomery, with your vast drug-science-wisdom and silliness, you have enchanced my life.

thanks for the tip

people at Canadian Tire are so godamn stupid - I've asked them so many times if they have calcium chloride, and they don't know what I'm talking about. I've even said that it's used sometimes to melt ice and they're like, "muh??"

You don't happen to know what percentage calcium chloride this Ice Melt is do you?...

Even as the nineteenth century had to come to terms with the notion of human decent from apes, we must now come to terms with the fact that those apes were stoned apes. Being stoned seems to have been our unique characteristic.

omg I know! I lost count of the # of ppl who gave me a blank look when I asked for desiccant...now I'll admit that I didn't know what it was when I first started reading grow guides BUT THIS WAS IN THE 9TH GRADE! :P you'd think one of the employees at these places would have at least heard the word before...neways I never did find damprid but I did find silica gel at a craft store and silica gel is better than damp rid anyways...it has the indicator crystals and is reusable for life

Silica gel is a much better desiccant than damp rid... you can order a 5 lb can of it from mrart.com for $12.99... that is enough to last for years because it is reusable... they market it as 'flower drying art'

I hope this is still relevant. I've been looking for a desiccant for a long time now and will try to find this one. Thanks for the post.
