Bear attacks woman picking mushrooms
MYOKOKOGEN, Niigata -- A bear attacked a woman picking mushrooms in a forest here Sunday morning, seriously injuring her, police said.
Yoshiko Tachino, 52, a housewife, was picking mushrooms in a forest near her home in the Sekigawa district of Myokokogen when a bear suddenly attacked her at around 8:50 a.m., local police said.
She suffered serious injuries after the animal scratched her arms, face and head. The 1-meter-long bear is believed to be an Asiatic black bear.
The forest is located in a tourist spot where numerous mountain villas are concentrated.
The municipal government is urging tourists staying in the area to exercise caution while local hunters patrol the area with hunting guns. (Mainichi Shimbun, Japan, Oct. 31, 2004)

Trippy the bear says "Cultivate your own!". Hah. Funny how the name of the district was Myokokogen, looks like Mycology almost. I did a double take reading it.
