When have cakes had it?
    #3329045 - 11/06/04 10:36 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

Hey guys, I was just wondering when/if I should replace my cakes? They are still growing mushies at the moment, fourth "generation" and I picked some once a week for trips. Also, would more or less mushies grow if I pick them on a daily basis? What i mean by that, does more free space cause more mushies to grow? Thanks for all your help!

Just keep picking until they stop popping up. Once the substrate is spent, your cakes will stop fruiting. Just keep dunking after each flush until they're done with. Also, I don't believe free space is going to affect how many more pop up.

I get really nice first and second flushes. Then third flush comes to about 1/2 of first flush. I just have jars ready and replace them after 3rd flush. No need to keep the old cakes around since the chance of contam increases with number of flushes.

Unless you are under constraint with supplies, try to rotate them out early so you keep good flushes going with minimal risk of contam. Take a few prints and use that instead of buying syringes.

I usually get rid of my cake when there are no more fungi popping out or when it turns to 'jelly' so to speak, meaning it falls completely apart when its lifted or even touched or prodded.
