You must have the RH at 95% - 100% for cakes.

I do not understand why you would put holes in the lid when the humidity is already too low. Maybe there's a misunderstanding...?

I suggest you case your cakes. I had the same problem as you in that I was unable to remove my cakes from the jars. Also, with casings they only require 90% humidity, therefore you won't have to make any alterations to your PMP. Casings aren't very difficult - I think thats the way to go.

How large is our PMP? Second levels might be a possibility.

??

Just fix the PMP to raise the RH. You need at least 1" of whatever you are using above the water line. Try to drop the water level a bit or put more perlite/geolite/lava rocks/hydroton or whatever to have more than 1" above the water line. This is usually the reason for why the PMP won't hold Rh.

As far as the holes... If your lid is making a tight seal(on mine, lid lifts up a bit from air pressure from pumps), you are okay.

If you want to make some holes, 2 one to two inch diameter holes on the lid will do fine. You can even cover it with tyvek if you want. But again, none of this is required if you have a relatively loose lid.

If you are in dry ambient areas like southern cali, you can just use more geolite and water.(i.e. 4" geolite, 2-2.5" water)

Good luck

Sam
