question on sterility
    #3328831 - 11/06/04 11:06 PM (13 years, 5 months ago)

alright, so all i've read about is how important it is to sterilize everything while incubation...but my question is that I haven't heard anything about sterilizing the terrarium. I just bought a rubbermade container with a clear lid...do i need to do anything to sterilize this, or can i just stick the cake in there and expect it to begin growing? thanks for the help.

adopt the philosophy of nature...her secret is patience

I cleaned my tubs with 1/25th bleach and rinse a lot before I used them.

Very important to have your incubation chamber be sterilized cause you don't want contams taking over your cakes before mycellium fully colonizes them.

And second, the reason you probably don't hear as much about sterility in terrariums is that once cakes (or casings if you case them) are fully colonized they're a lot less vulnerable to contamination. It's still nice to keep everything nice and tidy though cause there's still that possibility..

Hope I helped.
