Will this vermiculite work?
    #3328810 - 11/06/04 08:57 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

First time growers here, using the PF-Tek method. Will this vermiculite work well (it's fairly fine but not an absolute powder, found it at Home Depot).

Also: does anyone have any websites to order boxes of 16 gauge needles from?

Thanks in advance.

Edit - After looking over this a little bit more I think I can answer my own question; this vermiculite is crap. Can anyone suggest to me a good brand of horticulture vermiculite that most garden supply stores will carry?

Wait...after looking at it again (outside of the bag next to a ruler) it looks like it will work fine...it just looks very misleading in the bag.

Excuse my moment of idiocy.

Here's a picture just to make sure...

It's hard to see from the blurriness. But it you think it is to course to use, then just blend it up some in a blender. I couldn't find any around where I live that was as fine as I thought it should be, so I blend it up a bit to get it smaller. You don't want it as fine as powder though. I get mine so it is about the size of small gravel, and I am able to get my cakes colonized in about two weeks.
