Huh? Is a terrorist ANYONE who resists having their homeland invaded by the USA?
To date, there is not even the slighest hint that any native of Fallujah was planning so much as tossing a tomato in the mainland USA. Therefore, the pundits are either playing word games or the USA is creating more terrorists wherever they attack. If the latter is true then this is a very ill-thought out campaigne destined to TOTAL failure. (See: mythical hydra).

apparently phi here thinks the Iraqis want Saddam placed back into power, so they can be shot on his whim for not voting for him, denied a chance at economic prosperity? so they can be denied religious freedom? so they can be denied freedom of speech?

True. At least they dont have to worry about newspapers being closed down or foreign media being banned from the country...oh hold on, actually thats what has been happening since Saddam was deposed!

Regardless of any of the above, do you actually think that just because people are resisiting the US they must want Saddam back? Cant you see that they might not like the brand of liberation that the US are giving them?
Many consider oil to be the primary motive for the invasion and feel their suspicions are confirmed when the US rush to secure the oil fields first and dont seem in any hurry to repair the infrastructure which they so readily destroyed.
They think the people currently in "power" at the moment are US puppets and they dont see alot getting done.

it is foolish to lump all the people of Iraq into the false category of "Iraqis." Some support US occupation, some want the old regime back, and even more do not want either - they simply want to be left the fuck alone. If you read up history and reports, you'll see the people of Fallujah fall into the "leave us alone" category.

You're correct. A mere 2% of the "terrorists" picked up in Iraq by the americans have been foreign fighters. The rest are just ordinary Iraqis seeking the liberation of their country.

I was watching Fox News this morning (because I enjoy starting the day pissed off) and every time the anchor referred to the Falluja resistance as "terrorists," I felt insulted...then pissed off. I planned on venting with a thread like this, but you beat me. I'm glad I'm not the only one who considered this.

I was rolling my eyes at the thought process that led Satan to connect these two ideas:

I deffinately agree with the first one, and think the second one is probably true.

However, by making these two true statements in conjunction, Satan implied:

Our society has strayed so far from scientific cause and effect that it is alarming.

News pundits "joked" about how whenever the Redskins won right before an election, a Democrat would win. This type of ad hoc "reasoning" is becoming more prevalent and I fear "An Age of Irrationality" may be upon us.

You seriously must be joking if you cannot reconcile that someone can reasonably hold both those opinions. Is the concept of guilt (as in a murderer sent to death row} vs innocence (unborn fetus) beyond you? Don't misunderstand my personal opinion. I am pro-abortion (NOT pro-choice, I think you should have to pass a test). I could support the death penalty but unfortunately only if it was to be decided by myself. I don't trust anyone else, although I have never heard of a case where an innocent man was executed. But to think that there is an inherent illogic in simultaneously holding these two opinions is ridiculous.

zappaisgod, don't make me cite at least 26 trillion other irrational things Bush has done. Sure Swami's post may have a big of ambiguity, a slight discrepancy, but do you have to be so anal?
