A Bunch of Questions for me to Brush up on
    #3327422 - 11/06/04 01:38 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

How often should I fan my aquarium to optimize growth? Is it a thing of "the more often, the better"?

Make a PMP. You don't need to fan if you use PMP. It's like fanning 2-3 times an hour with moist air, something you can't do with fans.

no. Geolite is blown up clay. You can use perlite in the PMP.

Some other things you can use are small corals pieces or small pieces of lava rocks.

Good luck

Sam

so by having the perlite wet, and the pump on all day this automatically fan/mists them?

Yup. For the pump size, get a large one. You should have pump pumping about 2-3 times the volume of your PMP every hour. Pumps are rated liters per hour. To simplify calculation, think of a quart as a liter. If you get a pump with dual outlet, it'll be good for a very large rubbermaid. 120L per hour will be good for about 40-50gal rubbermaid. You can go smaller pump, but you are not sticking to ideal conditions, then...

Good luck

Jeez you know a ton lol. I believe i have a 20-30gal rubbermaid. I suppose I should wait until these cakes get done (IF THEY Ever PIN!!!)to make this, i'm thinking of making a new tub too, as right now I have more syringed of spores than I know what to do with, and I'm about to do a honey tek too.

the sweet thing about the PMP (or so i've read) along with the fact its the lazy man's pod, if you use hydroton/clayballs/geolite its a wicking substance so your cakes pick up some of the water from them slowly.. which is good.. like a bottom casing that never dries out...
