Casing/overlay probs.
    #3327128 - 11/06/04 11:08 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

I have a casing that has tons of myc at the surface. Most of it is pretty dense hyphal knot looking stuff, some is whispey, and some is starting to turn blue (hasn't been touched?). There are also small water droplets that form on the denser stuff. I'm worried I'll get overlay, and although theres hyphae I see no signs of pins yet. It's been this way for about 4 days now. I'll get some pics later, but I'm worried I might loose this casing. Anyone have any ideas on what to do?

Also how long has it been in your fruiting chamber?

Temp is low 70s, gets colder at night though.
I really don't have a good way to judge RH but I'd say its around 75 or so...but if I try to raise it water just droplets form all over the myc. I have light on it several hours a day.

Here's the pics.

don't you think if ya was going to invest in growing shrooms you would have invested in a meter that tells rh temp?

Yeah bro get a hygrometer, radio shack has some nice combos with external line sensors for 30.00. Might seem steep but well worth it. Ive been looking at your pictures closely and I dont see much reason to panic yet. Overlay may be a concern if your casing looks water logged but it can easilly take 10+ days to initiate pinning if all conditions werent optimal, and judging by your means to evaluate your conditions, I would say your experiment is less then perfect. Give it some time...and dont scratch it in haste. Maybe at some point down the line you can try it, but its an overated and digressive technique.

I'm with kiddo here...leave that shit ALONE. Given your current conditions I'd say you should have pins soon. How long has it been in the chamber?
