Half-Life/Steam under Linux?
    #3326972 - 11/06/04 09:38 AM (13 years, 1 month ago)

I finally made the switch over to using linux 100% of the time. I'm having a HELL of a time trying to get Steam working!

Has anyone got Steam to work under linux? How????

I NEED MY DAY OF DEFEAT!

What have you tried so far?

Wine, not likely, WineX, not free, still not likely; CodeWeaver's CrossOverOffice, also not free, is supposed to be AMAZING, and I've heard of people running all manner of things with it...

I've seen linux steam clients on google...  I've run Half Life 1 in WineX before - it's a bitch, but can be done...  I'm pretty sure this is a site with some directions.

There used to be a few petitions out to get Valve to port their stuff to linux, but Valve has so far seemingly ignored everything - which is dumb, 'cause I know lots of people that are QUITE happy with the new UT + native linux stuff...  Valve just doesn't think there's a market...  :frown:

Yeah I've tried Wine but absolutely no luck, so I think I'll give Cedega a try.

I'm not big on linux, but would VMWare work?

I got it working with Cedega, though it doesn't run too well yet. Looks like a lot of tweaking to do :smirk:
