sounds like a red-staining inocybe. these i beleive are poisonous, but im not sure

Forax, your description is plenty good. Those are bleeding Mycenas: M. haemotopus or sanguinolenta most likely. Quite common, edibility unknown. See Arora "Mushrooms Demystified" pp. 231-2 & color plate 46.

i picked some like what you are saying..only they were really small mushrooms..caps no bigger than a quarter of an inch..the cap is really dark in the center and gets lighter towards the outter edge..when i picked them a reddish color liquid spewed out the stem.dont know what the are though

Yep, those would be Mycena sanguinolenta. Tiny conical red-brown caps, relatively long thin hollow stems, pale gills, grow in forest mulch, exude red juice when cut. Haemotopus is the "larger" species, conical caps up to 1" diameter with a pronounced dark nipple in the center & a whitish fringe, red juice, growth in woody waste or directly on rotten wood.
