I used to breed rodents to feed snakes and they all get tumors when they get old, it is not cancer. I don't believe there is anything you can do about it, it's pretty normal. The tumors don't really cause any ill effects except when they get REALLY big and impede movement. Best to humanely put them down when they get to that point.

For small rats and mice I just grabbed them by the tail and smacked the back of their head on the edge of a counter. Sounds violent but they died instantly.

most likely it is; but i would suggest taking it to a vet. I watched an episode of 'emergency vets' or something like that and there was a rat diagnosed with canceer. if you're attatched you can get meds to make it's little bit of time left on earth a little less sufferable... but putting it down will probably be the more selfless choice

Yeah rats suck when they get old. My brother had one that died a couple years ago. They get too fat to move from all tumors and can get to their food so they die of starvation. Other times they scratch or bite their tumors so much they become infectious.

Used to do this with our snake food, and they don't always die instantly... Its his pet, not a feeder. You don't want his last memories of his rat to be it skwirming around while his brain fills with blood. If its not in pain, and the doctor says it not in pain, don't kill it.

Our rat can't use its back legs, because _5_ years ago it got some tumor on its spine. Its still alive and always happy to see everyone.
But your situation might be different.

easy dude, just think about it, what could i do to him to put him out of his suffering as fast as possible, without him feeling much at all.

i pre-kill rats before i feed them to my snakes, because a rat can bite your animals eye out. so what i do, is, it sounds bad and childish, but. you need to put a pencil on the back of his neck, and pull up as fast and hard, as you can. your gonna break his neck, he aint gonna suffer at all, he will shake violently for 3-6 seconds, thats just what its body does when its dead as fuck that fast. i suggest you look away and not look it in the face if its a pet animal, ive never been emotionally attached to a rat, but i can see how someone could, they are sooo smart and charming.
the only faster way would be to blast him away with about any calibre gun, a red ryder to the dome would take him out.
dont jump the guns on takeing its life, if its not obvously suffering real bad, id just let him die of natural causes.

taking a rat to the vet that's funny. the bill would be like 20x's more than you paid for him just for the appointment fee.

the general bio classes at my school are doing rat discetion at my school i work in the lab and they way we kill them for the classes is put them in a bucket and pump co2 into it and they're dead in half hour or less, usually 10mins. doubt you have a co2 tank but you could rig something up to your car exhaust  wouldn't take long at all with all that flow.

Super Blunt and Skorpivo, this is the pub and I don't think your making light of killing pets fits in well here. Go to OTD if you can't be considerate of people's feelings.

I am considerate sir, I have rodents as pets 2 chinchillas, im just saying i am savage enough to bite a mouses head off, any pet is hard to see die, and many people have seen tumors in rats and doesnt sound life-threatening, good luck with your pet though guy.
