Odd cake question??? Don't laugh too hard.

The good news is there has been massive growth on my cakes. The "odd" new is, on one cake there is one little special ed shroomey growing out at an odd angle, who has decided to take a header down into the perlite. I've got the cakes on their own little piece of foil, but with odd grow angle of this one and the fact that he doesn't seem to know up from down, he is burying himself in perlite. Everyone else has figured out to head for the light. What do I do with my little "special friend"?

It's likely that that fellow is following the light that is being reflected off the alimunum foil. Eliminate that light source and he with right himself.

That sounds reasonable, but what else should I use? Just something not porous, i.e. maybe piece of plastic or something?  Also, as the first poster suggested I would eat him, but he is not big enough yet

It happens, what I do is I'll sterilize a piece of tinfoil (little 2x2 square) in the oven at like 400 for like 10 minutes, let it cool, and put it underneath the cap right before it hits the perlite. But I'm gonna say, i dont set my cakes on tinfoil or anything anymore and I've grown, helped grow well over a 100 cakes and they always do better sitting on the perlite, no problems w/ contamination from it.

... Or just ignore it, i have plenty of mushies that hit the perlite and abort, it just means the others will get bigger. I've also had alot that will hit the perlite, turn back up, and grow fricking massive because they have a great supply of water.

Another solution would be to elevate the cake.
