Cubensis in Central Texas
    #3324286 - 11/05/04 11:46 AM (19 years, 3 months ago)

Been huntin around here in central texas for a while without any real finds, until 2 days ago when a friend suggested that we search the cow fields that bordered his property. We searched almost the whole field with no luck until we finally came across 3 decent sized cubes. I want to go check the area again today but temps are: low 40, high around 70, is this too cold?

The cool temps will definately slow them down. I'd pick all you can right now because the season is about over.

Loc: Sometimes Kansas - Maybe ...

Perhaps with the Midwest finds
of cubes recently (as well as
Copes in OK), there is evidence
mounting of a cube strain existing
in more temperate climates and
fruiting prior to the winter freeze.

Perhaps cubes and copes (all fungi
for that matter) have a sentience we
are unaware of. If this is the case, they
may be a predictor for mass environmental
destruction (hurricanes on the East and
Gulf coasts for example), and are simply
finding a new environment to adapt to as
self preservation.

Nomadette and I found a new cube patch today (in Kansas),
and the original we found is squeaking out another flush.

Namaste,

Peaceful Nomad
