pc contaminated jars - extra precaution upon opening

hey!
so i got these few jars here with nasty green mold inside and i want to re use the jars.
im not really keep upon upening the jars in my room and spreading myriads of spores around, so i thought about pcing the jars prior to opening them in order to kill the mold myc/spores inside and render them harmless.
my quesion is, how long would one have to pc these jars? since it takes 90 mins for a normal jar to sterilise, i guess it will take 90 mins to kill every last sign of mold spores/myc inside the jar, is this correct?
and if pc'd for 90 mins, will the jar be safe to be opened in my room afterwards?

Why can't you just go outside and open the jar and dump it?
Then you could bring it inside and wash the jar out with some anti-bacterial dish soap.

That was my thought. Even take a bucket outside and clean them there if you're that worried.

simply not because ill get myself literally covered in mold spores all over there is no way NOT to be completely covered in spores as soon as u remove the grains from the jar and u'd take all of that shit inside with u on ur clothing ... we arent talking pftek cakes here that i could slide out easily, the grain would need to be shaken loose or spooned outside of the jar, getting myriads of spores in the air ! maybe now my concerns get a little bit easier to understand. peace ohm

go outside, dump all substrate from contammed jars into a sealable bag and then spray everything w/ lysol (i guess including yourself) before you come back inside. once inside scrub the jars w/ antibacterial soap. i don't think it'll be a problem.

just put a new bag in the trash can, stick the jar way down there and open it, shake out the grain and then as fast as you can spray the trashcan down so the mold-smoke doesnt rise too high

What's wrong with just pc'ing it for a while first? That would solve his problem.

yes, however it seems unnecessary to pc jars before you open them, just go outside and lysol before you go inside then clean further.

No your not. Others are just lazy. 60 minutes should be more then enough. Bleach injection has also been known to work. Then empty outside and use lysol.

ditto. I've wanted to avoid those clouds of green dust as well but don't have a p.c.... I'm pretty confident with a stiff breeze, if you break the cake loose, open the jar and give your wrist a strong flick you can remove the cake from the jar and launch it safely down wind. then i put the lid back on the jar and take it inside where it isn't opened until I have it in a sink of soap and bleach water. P.s.... the hoods above ovens are fucking havens for green mold....

Cakes yes but I've broken up many a quart jar in my day and those are a BITCH. I dont usually PC because I am usually lazy myself but it is certainly best to. I do it all in a trash bag then jars into black water and I use gloves and a paint mask all outside. Then the jars come in and get rinsed well with warm water and ran through the dishwasher..then stored until use.

This seems like a serious case of paranoia to me. I do understand your concern of introducing already proven mold spores into your growing enviornment, but do you have any idea mow many mold spores are in your house anyway?
Unless you live in a sterile lab your going to be exposed to foreign spores and bacteria, period. Empty the jars, wash your hands, change your clothes, take whatever precautions are necessary. Dont beat a dead horse with a stick. Contaminants are here, and they are here to stay.

There is nothing wrong with being overly paranoid about opening the jars in the house. Yes there are all sorts of spores in your household, but to knowingly open a jar with known contams in the house your growing in is just stupidity. Pressure cook that bitch. Also as said before bleack injection is an excellent method , you could even use it in addition, but that may be going over kill.

I like to put mine thru the dishwasher if you have one. I feel it rinses off the cleaning agents better than running underwater. Just a personal preference though.

To anyone that likes to open contaminated jars without pcing. You are playing Russian roulette! As sooner or later you WILL open a jar with some very nasty stuff inside that will make you extremely ill or possibly end your life. Please do not learn this the hard way.
