From what I understand, it is a desirable substrate addition, yes.

I made a pint jar cake using an experimental combination of coarsly ground organic 10 grain cereal(corn, rye, wheat, triticale, oats, barley, soy beans, brown rice, millet and flax seed) and vermiculite.

The jar looks excellent, it is very, very rhizomorphic compared to my regular BRF jars. I need to birth it any day now. Should be interesting. I can't decide whether to case it or use it as a cake, though.

omega-3 alpha-linolenic acid. Extremely good for human beings, unclear on its benefits to mycelium. Tried a quick Google, but couldn't find anything.

Well if u want fast, look into whole grains.
Get some petris and do some agar work to get some healthy myc.

test it vs grains if anything.

This is your girst grow and your already experimenting. It seems like maybe you should do some grow with established teks before you try to do things that can give undesireable effects. Doing this will also allow you to compare growth rates of mycellium from the flax seed to other teks.

Some experiments you can do... I say go for it, actually. But don't expect anyone to believe you when you say it rocks or something like that. You have absolutely no base to compare it on. And even if you do more grows with PF jars or grains later on, you'll find convincing people will be hard because your techniques and procedures will undoubtable change from this FIRST grow.

But whatever floats your boat for now. I'm sure others will eventually get around to mixing it up and support or confront your results. Nothing to lose but your very first grow... but knowledge gain outweighs that risk in this case. Well, at least for you.(I'd advise, normally, to build solid foundation before taking on well planned and thought through experimentation which is compared to strict controls and procedures which can be compared to nearly identical control group of cakes/casings.)

Sorry about that. Despite all that mumbo jumbo, I'm giving you a thumbs up and many monster mushie wishies!

Good luck

Sam

thanks for the input, i will be doing the PF Tek, in one jar i will put the requested Brown Rice Flower, and in the other i'll do Flax seed Meal. I'll keep very close eye on each jar and take notes, and accurate drawings of whats happening (once a day).

Flax seed meal by itself isn't good. But it is a very good additive. Check out the Alien Substrate Formula for a reference. Cotton seed meal helps similarly.
