taking care of dirty mushrooms
    #3320947 - 11/04/04 07:25 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

So I just found a heaping pile of cyanofribliosas. They got tons of dirt on em. I was wondering if after cleaning there rumps off if it would be kosher for me to put them in a strainer and wash them off? Move as needed just thought since I found them it could go here.

best to not ever rinse mushrooms with water. (with psilocybes, it usually makes them more prone to rot. with edibles, it makes them gooey when cooking, and makes them lose flavor)

take a toothbrush or something and try to brush it off.

with P. cyanofibrilosa the soil won't hurt you. just rub it off as best you expediently can. if you insist on rinsing them use as little water as you can manage then keep them well spread out to air out.

Attn PWN hunters: If you should come across a bluing Psilocybe matching P. pellicolusa please smell it.
If you detect a scent reminiscent of Anethole (anise) please preserve a specimen or two for study and please PM me.

There was a tarp with wood chips and most grew from under the tarp in a huge dense mat. It was realy an interesting find. I mean clumps of mushrooms the size of my hand, with each clump having over 40 nice specimens. Dirt never hurt no one I guess. Im not cleaning them all off, it would take a year.
