The dry layer of verm is probably enough protection, so some might say that is overkill, but I don't see where it could hurt. I'd fan out the envelope from time to time though. If you live in an especially mold/spore filled environment or if you've had a lot of contam problems in the past it might be a good idea. Hell, try it and let us know.

I agree with 4hodmt. I think it would probably breathe too much to be used as a spawn bag.

Thats a great idea, could this be a new TEK? I'm planning on innoculating some grain soon so i'll try it out by putting the jar inside an envelope. It's definately redundant for the PF TEK though.

Anybody have any reason why it wouldn't work?

Id save yourself sometime..if you can keep it from drying out you won't stop it from contaming. It works well on the top of jars but not for spawn bags. Use oven bags with polyfil for that.

They are the tops of bottles. Those blue ones are propel bottles. Just about any sort works. Those green ones are from 20oz squeeze water bottles. They didn't hold up AS well but they worked. I've found 2-liter tops to be strongest. Note the pic on the left sitting on the box the two peices apart..the bottom part with threads that the bag goes through then the cap with the hole in it that screws down over the bags. Stuff with polyfil and you can inject through the polyfil. Takes a bit to of practice working with bags..I still prefer jars.

Instead of wasting all that tyvek, why don't you just put a tyvek circle over the lid disc like everybody else? :P

That's what I've been doing. To get around the problem of knowing where the hole(s) in the lid are, I feel around the lid for the hole(s), and then take a pencil and rub it sideways over that area, like you would with a headstone rubbing.

The hole leaves a light spot, and you can see where to stick the needle.
