Wouldn't adding BRF to vermiculite for casing increase yield?

I'm new in the cultivation arts. I was wondering... as far as casing goes, because vermiculite has no nutritional value you become dependent on the nutrition in the crumbled cake. So if you add nutrients to your vermiculite layer, wouldn't you be be creating the possibility for a higher yield because the fungi can feed off of multiple sources of nutrients?

You should not add nutritive substances to the casing layer. This allows contamination to enter swiftly and you will likely lose the whole thing. Casing layers typically consist of things which hold moisture relatively well, but are free of nutrients. There are more than enough nutes in the substrate. If you would like more nutes for the shrooms, then look into using your jars to spawn a bulk substrate like poo/straw, letting that colonize and then casing that with a non-nutritve casing mix.
