Soy Jar
    #3319973 - 11/04/04 03:24 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

On the 8th of October, I inoculated 5 half-pint jars using the PFtek (GT strain), except I substituted soy powder instead of BRF. I did this just to change things up and also because pound for pount the soy powder was cheaper than the organic BRF.

Considering these jars have been incubating for just under a month at an average temperature of 68 degrees, I think they're doing quite well! However, I'm a little concerned about the small yellow/brownish patches that have appeared (see pic) I doubt it's a contam, but I want to be sure, and see if anyone has seen anything like this.

Also, has anyone had any experience with using soy powder?...The one thing that i liked about it is the way it consistently blended with the verm before adding water.

Any comments or suggestions?

Looks like mycellium piss, don't worry about it too much unless it spreads or gets darker. Try incubating at around 85 degrees.. your jars will finish at least a week sooner.. worth the 20$max for an in-tank fishtank heater!

put them on the back of the fridge as that will be just about the right temp and most assuredly warmer than 68F(works for a case or two of 1/2pints)

I've seen that stuff in a few jars and never had problems with them.
