Humidity/myco growth question
    #3318748 - 11/04/04 09:13 AM (12 years, 1 month ago)

hey all Im glad I found this site of experts on this!
It it normal for the white fuzzy myco that grows on the cakes to grow on the base of the stem of the mushie? Its not going that far up the stem just around the bottom. or does this mean the humidity is too high?

Completely normal

Get worried about your humidity if it begins growing on the caps.

oh yeah one other thing, the cakes are resting on top of the ball jar caps with the 4 drilled holes in them, and sometimes water/moisture from the perilite leaks in the bottom and it some water gets held in the ball jar lid. Its just a small amount, but is this a problem?

I don't forsee any serious problems until your cakes get toward their last flushes, then it could potentially invite contams just like dunking in later flushes. I use Country Crock butter lids for mine.

I bet them little containers would make good cake containers..wonder if they'd hold up to a pc.

I use pot plates(platic ones about 5" in diameter for the bottom now. I actually have some standing water in there below the verm. Seems to work, but still wouldn't recommend it to anyone. My current rotation of cakes is 3 flushes, so I don't stress my cakes as much as some people. If I can have standing water, I really don't think those holes will be much problems.

Just keep a close eye on it. I flip my cakes after dunk each flush. It's also a good time for an inspection at that time.
