soaking rye
    #3318234 - 11/04/04 12:56 AM (19 years, 4 months ago)

are there any negative side effects to letting grains soak for several days in water before PCing them? I started soaking them monday night and forgot about them.. this week has been and will be very busy, so i wont be able to get around to it until the weekend.

Are the grains going to be ok, or should i get another bag? Would they explode if left in water for 4 days?

That long may be a little excessive as the rye may have started to germinate, which is a bad thing... You should be able to tell by examining the grain.

i was under the impression that the reason you soak them is so that they germinate. germinating makes them vulnerable to the high temperature of pressure cooking.

they look ok. not much different then 24 hours after first letting them soak. it just smells like ass in there though. so i added fresh water.

:werd: Better start  some more.
The soak is to let bacterial endospores hatch which normally may survive a pc'ing.

soakings a bunch of crap.
it may do what they say it does.
but i believe its horrendous overkill.

i left some popcorn in my sink once.
funny shit.
i came back 2 days later and there was 3 inch fucking sprouts that rooted into a
wash cloth.
That ended my soaking days.

im not saying i soaked for 2 days.
i wanted to test to see if soaking made a difference and i dropped a few in the sink by accident.
I only soaked for 12 hours.
only need to simmer corn.
hell u might not even have to do that.

i learned corn is one hardy mother fuking plant.
