Ive seen pictures of people using these rather than jars, but have been unable to locate a tek. I bought a thing of these today and want to give it a shot. I have honey tek to inject with, so im up for experementing considering how much liquid myc i have right now. You would be sterilzing them in the microwave right? Can anyone set me in the right direction?
p.s. I am growing in amsterdam.

How does PCing -after- casing sound?
This post by Magash a while ago might help answer some questions.

well .. Im thinking about doing the pf tek, inside of the plastic containers. Basically 2.5 cups fits in these containers. I think i will fill up to 2 cups, then a layer of dry verm. I see a couple advantages in this. Plastic lids don't rust. they are semi tranparent from all angles. They look cool too!

This wouldnt work for the PF Tek. I really don't feel like explaining but suffice it to say don't try it or yourll be dissapointed. The PF Tek is very specific and done the way its done for many reasons. If you want to do this sort of thing you need to use whole grains.

Actually, IT DOES WORK for the PF tek. However, I have found that Gladware is a better product.

Well using the ziplock containers that Magash uses and most use and I'm assuming this person is talking about I see a number of things wrong with the PF Tek and this method. I was busy harvesting earlier but I'll explain more now and perhaps you can explain how you overcame these obsticles for this person so they can use it?
The Ziplocks for casings usually used are good for a quart of substrate to make a 1 1/2 inch thick substrate layer..not to shabby. A quart though isn't 2 cups, its 4 so thats how much PF substrate that would have to be used in order to get a good substrate depth. It would colonize painfully slow. Of course you could use less substrate but you'll just end up with small piddily mushrooms.
Of course thats assuming you don't make it thicker because with the PF Tek, the dry verm layer should go right up to the lid to be used as protection. How do you inject through that inch and a half or two (more if you use a thinner substrate level) of space and through the dry verm layer another 1/'2 inch or whatever? Seems you'd need a thicker substrate level to get it (I own the Ziplocks so I'm speaking from experience) up to the top even if you have a 1 1/2" needle.
Then theres the dry verm layer..what to do with it? Strait verm is a poor casing material IME. I suppose you could scrape it all off and add a new casing. But then theres the whole microwave thing? Even boiling you couldn't stack the containers and could most likly only do one at a time. If using a PC why not just use grains to begin with.
Im sorry I don't see how this could work well enough to warrent doing it but please feel free to explain what you did. I'd love to see some pics of the casing fruiting too if you happen to have them

ok so i pressure cooked two of these muthas. i poked holes in the tops of the lids and filled the holes with a droplet of hotglue. They pressure cooked fine, but the hotglue opened up on one of holes so im not gonna use that one, do it over tomarrow. I filled up to the 2 cup line leaving about 3/4ths of an inch, which i covered with dry verm. Ive decided that hot glue is no good seeing that it softens in the PC. I do want to maintain the clear tops so i can look at it from all angles so next time im gonna cover the holes with small bits of masking tape. so basically 2.5 inch layer of pf tek substrate in a plastic boxie thing. I put vermiculte as a top layer for now , and decide if i want to recase later. But yes the syringe definantly goes down into the wet substrate. I have liquid myc at the ready , so I injected once cool. I figured this rougly to be a little over two half pints worth, so I have it 1cc in each of 4 holes. hopefully the colonization will go ok with it being live myc, and 4 cc in total.
the whole microwave thing
Ive not sterilized with the microwave, but plan on trying it out sometime this week. Im hopeing to find someone who says they have sterilized with a microwave and find out how long they heated , etc.

2.5 inches thick? From 2 cups? We must be talking about different ziplock containers.
This kind?
I'm not sure how 2 cups would fill it up so theres 3/4 of an inch left. If there is then it should work if you went right up to the top..the whole thing is, you used a PC so why not just use grains? You'd end up with more mushrooms for the same if not less work and quicker colonization. The only real benifit and use for the PF Tek is the fact that you don't need to PC..

the ziplock/gladwares I use are 32 oz/8 cups. They work out pretty good. 2 inches of substrate which is 4 cups.

Right..thats the ones I'm talking about..perhaps this is a size confusion? These things are like 4 inches tall holding 8 cups..I can't see you making a PF Tek work with these..

The plastic containers i have are smaller. These are the semi transparent blue toped "snap and seal ziplock containers". They are siginifcantly smaller than those. I used the PC last time just to see if they would work in there. I am also interested to see I microwave would work with these. As well, Ive got alot of BRF right now and want to use it up.

These are also semi transparent blue topped snap and seal ziplock containers..these are the ones I've seen around the forum though and you mentioned those being it, I thought you were refering to that.
Microwave and ovens are dry heat and would dry out your substrate. Water content is one of the most (if no the most) important factors in colonization.

cause people like to do things thier way, pretty simple let them work harder and rejoice in your own efforts of not haivng to work as much,as you can see from using hot glue now your back tracking wasted time product, would silicone work? anyh how grains is the best way to go but then why inject spores and wait why not just use corn syrup, and a little water steril it then inject wait a few dyas then grow form liqiud growth????

I do have liquid myc. I have lots of brown rice flower. It was just a test so i dont care about that single loss. I got a bunch of brown rice flower here. I like experementing... etc.

no.. the containers im talking about are smaller. 2 cups of substrate and a half inch layer of verm. the needle reaches the substrate, there is no air beween top and dry verm later.

Ok, thats different then. 2 cups is only a pint which would cause slightly longer colonization but liquid myc should fix that up for you and if the substrate is 2 1/2 inches thick with a half inch layer of verm this should work. I would try scraping the verm off a few and replacing with 70/30 coir/verm or 50/50+ peat/verm+ and seeing if it does better then just leaving the verm on top.
SIlicone should work over the holes however if your replicated the PF tek why not do it the same? Leave the holes there and just cover the top with tin foil. The verm layer is the protection you need. If your going to seal the holes off..you don't need the verm layer since its only purpose is protection of the open holes. You can let it colinze with out it then when colonized..pop off the lid and throw on a good casings mix (the 50/50 or 70/30).
Still though you should really try out grains. You could do much more substrate easier and get more shrooms per amount of substrate. More flushes as well.
