"Let the healing begin."

Like John Kerry and several other citizens have noticed, this country remains sharply divided. Will it take more terrorist attacks to stimulate the unity we shared following 9/11? Or is there a chance Bush and his admin will make efforts to unify the nation through compromise? Comments?
P.S. Please please please keep this discussion civil and reasonable by saving the gloats, curses, and threats to revolt or move overseas for other threads.

I think it will, bush won't have to compromise when the republicans control the house and senate. He already said he plans to pursue an aggressively conservative agenda.

When we remove the HATE in politics we will be more united. Hate has no positive attributes.

It would be nice if we could apply that to this board. People get way out of line on here sometimes.

Needless to say, Bush now has a second term. He has nothing to lose now, which is scary.

Actually, I think most might agree that hate unites. We were united against Osama following 9/11...then our attention was divided by the war in Iraq.

So...Mr. President...you wanna rape the earth, steal from the poor, go to war so your rich friends can get richer and remove all posibility of political opposition? Well...OK!...I'm right behind you because of my patriotic duty to 'rally around the president'.

Alright, in the interest of healing, everyone say something nice about the candidate(s) they were opposed to.
I wanted neither Kerry nor Bush, so:
I think John Kerry is a very intelligent man and also a very cool guy, what with his guitar playing and snowboarding.
I think George Bush is very commited to what he believes in and work very hard to make America stronger.

Despite Source's choice to ignore my plea, I ask that no one else follow his post with additional topic ignoring posts. Let's keep it clean.
Anyway, I've decided to make an effort and "loosen my perspective" a little to allow Bush more of a chance to earn my support. I still have my disagreements, but I'm going turn down the volume of my complaints in hopes that our nation's division will fade and give rise to compromise.

Woops! Sorry Viagio!
But to be fair, I didn't curse or threaten.
I just don't think I'll be able to rally around someone with the agenda of Bush. I don't see it as my patriotic duty. If he were truly interested in the wellfare of all mankind but had a few flaws I would have no problem supporting him though.

George Bush comes off sometimes as a sweet simpleton.
John Kerry has a positive attitude.

It's cool. I have a hard time supporting his agenda too, but my hope is that a stronger sense of unity will open a path to common ground. Republicans got Bush elected, but it doesn't necessarily mean they completely approve his agenda. Even though they will have more control, many Republicans have an opposing stance on several issues. Perhaps these Republicans will play an important role in stressing to the President that compromise is essential.

A positive note regarding Bush? Well, his sense of conviction is admirable. Perhaps it can be focused into more constructive avenues (other than "nation building"). Oh, and he appeals to the majority
