I believe now that they are jack-o-lanterns. Does my description sound right? I was reading in my field guide that jack-o-lanterns gills glow green in the dark. I took one in a dark room to try this but nothing glowed.

Your description, except for the spore print color, sounds like Jack O'Lanterns. Did you just tell us what color the gills are? To get a spore print color you need to do one on white paper.

According to my references the glowing only occurs with very fresh specimens.

Happy mushrooming!

No, no, no. I placed a fresh cap onto a white piece of paper, left it there for 10mins. and came back to a creamy-orange spore print. My specimens are as fresh as they could possibly be. They grew over night in my backyard and I immediately tested the glowing on a mushroom after picking it. Within a minute after picking it. Just curious what color should the spore print be of a jack?

Ok so I probually didnt get a true spore print. I think they were just so fresh that they stained the paper orange. Probually wasnt the spores staining but the wet mushroom gills. Ill try again tomorrow on a dark sheet of paper.
