The provisional and absentee ballots could turn this around.

I'm curious about the millitary vote. I wonder if they voted for Bush?

If Bush can deliver 4 years without a war, a massive crackdown on civil iberties or an all out assault on the environment, I promise not to complain too much.

RE: you being gormless, easily duped intellectual dungheaps

Just wanted to establish that whatever fucked-up shit comes down on all of our heads over the next four years...it's all your fault.

I am no longer blaming Bush or Cheney or Karl Rove or anybody else in the NeoCon coven. You can't blame them for being evil, hateful warmongering fuckshits any more than you can blame a gun for shooting bullets. But YOU ASSHOLES let them get away with it for four more years.

A tidal wave of blood coming down on us all from the next terrorist disaster? YOUR FAULT.

Military draft stealing away the lives of an entire generation of young Americans (and then some)? YOUR FAULT.

Perpetual wars in the Middle East making Orwellian nightmares seem like tinkertoys in the sandbox? YOUR FAULT.

A ruined economy and ecology, a Constitution left in tatters, a tyranny of wealthy white "Christians" who are anything but? YOUR FAULT.

The rest of the world abandoning us when we'll need it most (and don't say it won't happen)? YOUR FAULT.

Future decades upon future decades spent living down Bush's legacy and repairing the damage to the country and the world? YOUR FAULT.

Making this planet a less prosperous and peaceful place in which to raise my future child? YOUR FUCKING FAULT

I hope you're quite pleased. I hope you enjoy the tax cuts and the military dick-waving and the surge of pride you must feel when Bush stands in front of a flag he has never for a moment of his life defended. Just remember, when you and I are both up against the wall, the last thing you'll see before we're both shot in the head is my finger raised in accusation against you. And it won't be my index finger.

pretty much sums up how I feel.

Somehow, I believe your question is not from genuine concern, but from an inflated ego attempting to instigate further division. He simply stated how he felt.

Link to video. I'm not saying that video proves he meant we're having a draft, it was just a mis-speak. No biggy, but he did explicitly say we would not have a draft. He also said he wouldn't spend social security. A lie. Him and cheney said they would leave the issue of gay marriage up to the states, another lie. He said he wouldn't interfere with the state's rights to allow medicinal marijuana. Yet another lie. He said he would not use the 9/11 tragedy in his campaign. Yet we see bush ad campaigns with Kerry and the 2 towers falling, threats of terrorism. Cheney saying a Kerry victory will mean another attack.

Do you see why I don't trust Bush and his administration?

none of which have anything to do with the draft.  So he lies, most politicians do.  Can we also say that we will be bombing Canada next?  I mean I know he never said it but he did bomb Iraq. :smirk:

Typical. WTF are you talking about?

I'm a wacko conspiacist because I pointed out that since Bush is a KNOWN LIAR we might do well not to believe that he won't institute a draft at a time when it seems likely he will need to in order to pursue further his agenda?

Why is the consevative response to people that disagree so often that of calling the others "crazy" or "wacko's"? To dehumanize the 'opponent' with absolutely no justification does nothing to further your argument. It mearly points out that you have run out of rational points to make.

The only thing that I pointed out was that Bush's word should not be enough to elliminate concern about a draft considering he is a liar. What is baseless about that?

Then you imply I'm crazy?! What did I make up? I personally do not dehumanize others, though you have tried to dehumanize me by claiming I'm crazy.

By the way. I'm not pissed off at you or anything. We are both U.S. citizens and it is our responsibility to try to figure things out in a rational manner. I was only trying to point out what I saw as a logical fallacy. I should not have brought up 'Conservatives' because it creates the whole me vs. you thing. In fact we are both people period.

maybe i'm not being clear but what i'm trying to say is that there has never been a mention that there would be a draft nor was it ever pondered in the senate or the house yet somehow we are to believe the "rumor" (that's what it is) becuase Bush lied about WMD's?

The only thing that I pointed out was that Bush's word should not be enough to elliminate concern about a draft considering he is a liar.

don't you think if this were even a possibility, that it would of been discussed?

So lets see:

1) there's no plans as far the senate, house of representatives and the president to start the draft, if this was even feasable you'd see people like Charles Rangle step in front of every single camera to annonce this rumor.
2) It's possible because bush lied before
3) Hell I figured the first two would cover it.

Quote:

What is baseless about that? Then you imply I'm crazy?! What did I make up? I personally do not dehumanize others, though you have tried to dehumanize me by claiming I'm crazy.

It's a rumor started by the libbies. Call it dehumanizing (a little dramatic, wouldn't you say?) or whatever but i'm saying if you have no proof then why do you expect others to take you seriously?

Quote:

I was only trying to point out what I saw as a logical fallacy.

That's debateable since you have nothing to back your claim other then Bush lied before about other issues NOT related to the draft.

I should not have brought up 'Conservatives' because it creates the whole me vs. you thing. In fact we are both people period.

since i'm not a conservative I didn't see it as you vs me.

I never claimed we were going to deffinitely have a draft. All I said was that Bush's word shouldn't be enough to calm fears and considering that the military is overextended maybe those fears are not completely unjustified...especially when you factor in Iran and North Korea.

So, while I'm not yet ready to flee the country to spare my children from being forced to fight a war for big-business, there is cause for concern. No absolute evidence, just cause for concern.

It's easy enough to see why there has been denial regarding the draft with the election still upcomming and all. But now that it's over?

Anyway...I guess all we can do now is wait and see. If things start popping up in the news about Iran I'll start to worry a little more.

Example, please.

Kerry is certainly a known liar -- that is easy enough to demonstrate. But Bush? I'm gonna need an example, I'm afraid.

As for the draft horseshit, Kerry is the one who proposed a mandatory sevice draft months back. It later mysteriously vanished from his website, but there are Google cache links to it.

Bush won't reinstate the draft. Step away from the koolaid bucket and worry about something that might actually happen.

Let me make it very clear for you.

Motive: If Bush continues his war mongering, we are going to need more troops in order to sustain it. There have not been enough troops on the ground in Iraq and if Bush moves on to other countries that will only spread the forces that much thinner.

Opportunity: He's the president. The House and Senate are controlled by his party. If he wants to pass it there is very little we can do to stop it.

Relevant Precedent: Bush is a proven liar who has repeatedly made false campaign promises. The promise to not bring back the draft is no different and is just as subject to question as to it's believability.

That is why there are a lot of people who are concerned that the draft could come back in the next 4 years. Is that simple enough for you to grasp?

and that is very very frightening... that the majority of americans support banning gay marriage - that the majority of americans support an absolute moron who is being led by big big money to enact a neo-con agenda of corporate/military imperialisation - that john kerry, who was claiming that Bush was such a horrible president now just says, "well we've got to all come together and support him..."

Your first point is irrelevant. Your second is meaningless, Bush has no political future after the presidency and has free reign to do whatever he wants with the republican controlled house and senate. Bush's campaign is quite good at fear mongering and war drum beating.

As for my own facts, they might more accurately be described mainly as factors. If you had read my reply a few replies up you will see what I'm talking about. As for Bush's broken campaign promises, they are legion.

Your first point is irrelevant. I'm just saying democrats like the draft. Sure this point is fairly irrelevant but hey it sounds good. Your second is meaningless, Bush has no political future after the presidency and has free reign to do whatever he wants with the republican controlled house and senate. hey silly head why the fuck do you think the president has so much power. What ever the president says does not go. It would be political suicide for every member of congress that voted for it and they all have futures. Get me? Bush's campaign is quite good at fear mongering and war drum beating. Well if you talking about his influence over congress than i suggest you take it up with the "simple minded, easily persuaded" congressmen like kerry.

As for my own facts, they might more accurately be described mainly as factors. If you had read my reply a few replies up you will see what I'm talking about. As for Bush's broken campaign promises, they are legion. So then you are basing your whole case over the fact that politicians lie? New flash: everyone already knows that. But this does not even remotely somehow make it look like bush would start a draft. Its all in your silly head.

What I posted in that reply was not what I was talking about as far as facts and factors that indicate a very real potential for a re-instated draft. Go back to the top of page 3 (assuming you have your preferences setup the same way) and see where I posted about motiv, opportunity and precedent. That's as simple as it gets. The motive being the key piece.

As for the congressmen thing, if all of the republicans voted to support a draft I can gaurantee you that most would be re-elected. Look at Bush, he's done so much damage to our country and he got elected. People are morons and vote based on the loudest and most repeated sound bites.

We're going back to war with Iraq now the election's over... instead of this waiting game.

Expect more shock and awe soon!

We're gonna' go in strong and take Falluja (sp)... and the rest of Iraq. Ramadan and the election have given America to take their time. Once these towns fall... the end of the war in Iraq will fast approach.

There's gonna' be an election in January... I'm going to wait until after Iraq votes to freak my shit out about a draft.

No vote in Jan... start hoping for a high number kids!

A draft and what bush has done in America are not even remotely similar, not even in the same galaxy. It would most certainly be political suicide, i would bet on that.

Motive: If Bush continues his war mongering, we are going to need more troops in order to sustain it. There have not been enough troops on the ground in Iraq and if Bush moves on to other countries that will only spread the forces that much thinner.

People and congress will realize that any action taken against another country would spread American forces far to thin. Congress who has the final say in the matter will not vote to become entangled in another conflict. Of course maybe he could go right over the congress unconstitutionally ala Clinton style, but i highly doubt it.

Opportunity: He's the president. The House and Senate are controlled by his party. If he wants to pass it there is very little we can do to stop it.

Political suicide my friend, its just not going to happen. A draft bill will not survive through both the house and congress.

Relevant Precedent: Bush is a proven liar who has repeatedly made false campaign promises. The promise to not bring back the draft is no different and is just as subject to question as to it's believability.

I said before this does not prove anything at all. All politicians lie, its required i think. Although you could question his promise it does not make it look like he is leaning toward a draft at all obviously.

Also you seem to fall into the familiar trap in believing that the president is some kind of king of America. News flash: the legislative branch is much more powerful than the executive.

Yes yes, he's not king. I think I realize that. Yes the congress generally does have more power. And who's in charge of it right now? The republicans with a pretty good margin. Who is likely to appoint at least one, maybe two or more supreme court justices? That's right, far right wing nutjob Bush. So again, there would be no accountability. The checks and balances would effectively be compromised. Do you think John Ashcroft is going to step up and protect you from a draft?

But the Republicans in the Senate can't. A draft is ridiculously unlikely though the probability would have been slightly less under a Kerry administration.

now this is just plain ironic. first you say hes not king acknowledging you understand the powers of the executive branch but then you go right to saying bush has a power that he doesn't.

Bush does not appoint supreme court justices, that is the job of the legislative branch.

Although on second reading, I'm a bit confused by your intentions when saying "So again, there would be no accountability."

Also the system of checks and balances deals with balancing the power exerted through each of the three branches. It has nothing to do with balancing out the type of decisions made. And the life term of a supreme court justice generally prevents pandering.

Its obvious you could use a little review of the three branches of the american government and the intertwined system of of checks and balances existing between them.

ap?point: to fix or set officially

nom?i?nate: to propose for appointment to an office or place

Bush nominates them, congress appoints them. Get it?

And since the people elected a republican congress and a republican president, don't you expect republican choices to be made? Should anything else happen?

The only people who believe that there will be the draft during Bush are the kool aid drinkers.

I suppose all this is selfless aid. No adjenda or gain for america? I don't think so. I'm also not trying to say that britain is much better. I disagree with the way most of the countries in the 'western' world live. Greedy and wasteful. It would just be wrong to bet about something like that. If it were to happen my children may end up being the ones called up. It just seems kinda sick to place a wager on it. It's like betting whether or not someone is going to die.

If it the wager was concerning something less...well...life or death, and the same factors were involved, I would actually be willing to take your bet.

But not with this.

America (government and anyone stupid enough to support them) is the plauge of the fucking earth.

I'm sad to admit it, but I feel this way too. So does a majority of Europeans right now.

The ideas of a mandatory military service or a draft to curb the war hawks, is a good idea in theory. In practice however, we already know that they will use every dirty trick in the book to get their families out of it.

What an incredibly weak wimp out. Nothing you or I do could possibly influence the implementation of a draft. We're just betting on whether something out of our control will occur. You spouted off that Bush was going to reimplement the draft. I got 100 American dollars that says you're a blowhard and full of shit. You don't even believe your own crap. Back up your bullshit. I'll let somebody else hold the dough. Pick the odds.

Clinton was okay on the environment, Bush got rid of something like 50% of all legislation designed to protect the environment. And gave $25 billion in tax breaks to oil firms. I haven't got a source, but Germany and the Scandinavian countries are pretty damn good on curbing emissions.

moral issues such as homosexual marriage

Apparantly you are in the EXTREME minority since this issue went down in flames. Something like 4:1 so the people have spoken.

Quote:

For a rich country you do surprising little about the global problem of pollution, waste etc. and why?? It will cost too much or you can't live without some of your lazy ways.

really? We don't do anything huh? Got a source as to who does the most?

Quote:

If by uniformed you mean that it is a large proportion of the world's opinion, then yes it is. People who seem to listen to a lot more international news than the average american.

naive thinking is not thinking.

Quote:

I suppose all this is selfless aid. No adjenda or gain for america?

no absolutly not, we don't give a damn about any country at all...give me a break, get off your high horse. What advantage was it to give Etheopians food, samolians or even Africans in general? huh?

Quote:

I disagree with the way most of the countries in the 'western' world live. Greedy and wasteful. Have you ever been to a country that america is 'helping' (apart from Israel which is obviously the right thing to do!?!?)

I don't feel guilty for how I live, I actually enjoy it. Does it make me greedy and wasteful? Absolutly not. Yes I am well traveled and have been to every continent except for Australia and Antarctica.

Quote:

You try speaking to some locals and see what the real feeling is when people live the end result not read the figure during an election campaign.

IU have and if what they say is any indication of of the situation the US is in then I am indeed proud to continue supporting what the US does.

Quote:

But i can say that i am probably more aware of world affairs than your average american.

I doubt it.

Quote:

I'll wait patiently for the coming: 'Why should we care what other countries think of us.'

the the issue is that we don't care if other countries don't like our policies, we kicked England out the last time they wanted to run our policies....it was a little war, you might of heard about it.

This post says it all. Said with classic American ignorant arrogance.

So it's not my government, i know that, so do many other people in the world but why the fuck should we butt out when it has a negative effect on our lives??? If it was you receiving the negative effect are you seriously telling me america would butt out?! I don't think so.

I am not interested that i am in an EXTREME minority where homosexual marriage is concerned, that is more my point. It is outstanding that it did get voted this way. It shows ignorance and intollerance in my (naive) view.

So you do the most for the environment do you? So why you not in the Kyoto agreement (maybe people will start thinking a bit harder after your hurricane season)? Why do you produce the most waste? Why do you use the most oil? Is it all soo necessary?

So most of the world is naive because it doesn't agree with america? More arrogance.

The advantage of giving aid is there believe me. Either there is various resources you want or simply putting a number on your election campaigns to win votes. It is not selfless and whatever you say to me will not change my opinion on that.

You are within your rights to enjoy your life but i bet you are greedy and wastefull. How many cars do you own? How much plastic packaging do you throw away? How much fast food do you eat? If you really are so well travelled you would be aware that the lifestyle we live in the west is wasteful and greedy. Where were these locals you have spoken to then, i don't mean the owner of Big Daves American Burger stall 10 miles from your borders.

Your last paragraph is perfect. It really makes my point. Get it into your fucking head, America SHOULD care what other countries think about them as you affect these countries big time. When are you guys gonna wake up to this!!?

I'd like to hear some opinions from non-americans on this. Whenever i discuss this kind of thing it is always an american fighting from your corner. I can't convince you, i know i can't. This is why it is so frightening. You guys are gonna end up in big trouble (and so is everyone else) if you don't sort your act out.

1. Speak for yourself...a small percentage of voters favor it over those who don't

I never said we do, show me where I have.

What in the fuck does the Kyoto protocal have to do with our annual hurricane season?

Why do you produce the most waste? Why do you use the most oil? Is it all soo necessary?

possibly since we are the #1 industrial nations. Do I want a pollution free country? Sure I do, and rest assured some american inventer will find a way for that to happen.

more ignorance from someone who doesn't know. You make many generalizations with absolutly nothing to back them up.

ignorant and close-minded, splendid.

you figured that out from the brief conversations we've had? you're good. I probably give more to charity then you made last year. Get your head out of your ass.

How many cars do you own?

2 cars...

How much fast food do you eat?

The last Time I had fast food was about a month and a half ago during a trip. What's you're point?

Quote:

If you really are so well travelled you would be aware that the lifestyle we live in the west is wasteful and greedy.

my good are you pathetic, you are under some impression that all americans are fat, lazy and waste everything. well I hate to burst your bubble, I'm not fat, I play many different sports, give to charities and recycle when I can. I don't look at the west like you do, you sound like a miserable person who is never happy, that's your right to be that why even though it's sad.

Your last paragraph is perfect. It really makes my point. Get it into your fucking head, America SHOULD care what other countries think about them as you affect these countries big time. When are you guys gonna wake up to this!!?

Get it throught your pea brain, Americans don't give a shit about what Europe thinks about them. You people have your own problems ie: hitler, mousilini, WW1 and WW2. You Europeans act as though you have it all figured out and the world should follow your lead. Newsflash, Americans aren't impressed.
