then I suggest we take the OPPORTUNITY in this and use his 8 year term to help trash the republican cause.
When things are more fucked up, we can blame bush for 8 yrs of idiocy and use it to fuel a libertarian machine............

The executive branch influences who ends up on the Supreme Court. With the president and both houses Republican, we're in for some seriously religious justices.

I feel so helpless right now. Don't all of you kerry supporters feel hurt and unsure about the next 4 years? The next four years is gonna be so fucked up. After his last term, comes another president and then.......the election of 2012!!! What's to come?!

Yeah like i said he nominates them. I just hate how so many people completely forget about the checks and balances of the american system. Way to many people think the president is to powerful. Heck the execute branch was designed to be largely a figurehead position with no real power.
Of course you can thank members of congress like Kerry to unconsitutionally hand over powers specifically meant for congress to the president.

The president was originally weak, but has had far more power than was his constitutional allotment since the presidency (reign?) of Andrew Jackson.

Yes he has gained much more power than he was intended to have but it still really is not to much(the legislative branch still reigns with much more power over the executive branch as it should)but with the way people talk about the president these days i would think we were electing a king.

First what do you mean by were never voted on. Also since the supreme court members are there for life they need not pander to anyone which increases their legitmacy greatly. This combined with the checks and balances on the judical branch keep them from gaining any actual applicable power.

How can a power hungry maniac like that seize control twice? I tell you the system has become unstable.

And I'm saying that doesn't mean they possess any applicable power. The life term, 7 members, specific use, along with the many other checks prevent them from gaining any applicable power. Laws can be worded as to avoid interpretation or new laws can be made if the last interpretation has derailed the objective of the law.
They do possess power just as every branch does but it is very, very clear that the legislative branch holds the most power.
The problem is you are agruing over the power of the judical branch and i am arguing over semantics. Semantics is tricky.
