    #3311739 - 11/02/04 11:38 PM (12 years, 9 months ago)

Conservatives, Republicans, Big Government Supporters: If John F. Kerry becomes the next U.S. President tonight, will you stand behind him in times like these?

Liberals, Libertarians, and Democrats: If George W. Bush wins a second term as U.S. President tonight, will you stand behind him in times like these?
Will you stand behind your Commander and Chief^
You may choose only one
I am a libertarian/liberal and I will stand behind Bush if re-elected
I am a liberal/libertarian and I will not stand behind Bush if re-elected
I am a conservative/republican and I will stand behind Kerry if elected
I am a conservative/republican and I will not stand behind Kerry if elected

i don't know what you mean.

do you mean support his actions w/ my words? do you mean continue to pay my taxes? do you mean volunteer to join the military?

What actions would I have to take to stand behind my president?

Well, for example Dennis Miller said that while he will be voting for Bush he added that if Kerry wins the election, he won't be a partisan hack and will support the new President in the face of America's War on Terror.

Yeah, but my and phi's point is that "stand behind" is so incredibly subjective it could mean anything.

Stand behind, support, bipartisan...I thought it was pretty clear. Maybe I overestimated you.

no, it's not clear.

I'm not a politician, so I can't vote for measures he proposes.
I'm obviously not going to misrepresent my views in public, and I doubt that's what you're suggesting - is it?

"Stand behind" is a metaphor - what I need is actual actions I can take that would qualify as "standing behind" - not just a bunch of vauge buzzwords.

I really wish the USA wasn't effected so much by the president, and more power was given to individual states instead.

Maybe Arabic is different because English tends to be very subjective especially when you use such vague terms as "stand behind."

I disagree with most of Kerry's policies and i believe that i would probably not like him as a president but I'm not going to bitch(about him getting elected), wear anti-Kerry t-shirts, leave the country, go on a rampage, or any other nonsense....does that mean i would be standing behind him?

I dont really care for peas, but I dont despise them and some things about them are actually good.....does that mean i stand behind peas?

More power WAS given to the individual states. The federal government has usurped a tremendous amount of power previously reserved to the states or to the people(as delineated by the tenth amendment). Both the Republicans and the Democrats are complicit in the continued decimation of our federal system of government.

If Bush wins, my only comment will be that am willing to bet that the following occur in the next 4 years:

1) Continued Net Job Loss
2) We'll still be in Iraq and the body count will be over 500,000 Iraqis civilians and over 2500+ U.S. Soldiers. No other real countries will remain in the coalition.
3) We'll have moved on to some other M.E. country other than Iran and Saudi
4) Iraq will still not control it's own oil
5) Social Security will be gone
6) Abortion will be illegal
7) National debt will have increased further
8) Marijuana will be outlawed completely, no medicinal use allowed
9) Terrorist attacks will have continued to increase
10) The world will be less safe than it is, terrorist recruiting will be at an all time high
11) More corporate scandal. Less culpability and justice.
12) Health care will have neared collapse
13) Poverty will have continued to increase
14) Civil liberties will have been repealed even further

Those are my predictions.

Oh and my stupid fat cow of a teacher told our class today she voted Bush because she wanted a Christian in office. I honestly wanted to start some shit, but didn't want to get failed for it. Our country is being controlled by a process of rich white guys exploiting the superstitious and irrational fears of the ignorant religious masses. Threats of terrorism from muslims, mentions of God in every sentence, claims that their candidate is speaking directly for god. And god damned if it ain't working. Isn't it high time we eschewed the pitchfork carrying, castle storming, witch burning mentality and moved into the age of enlightenment? Where reason and logic and reality hold sway?
