I went to the library today to pick up The Mushroom Cultivator by Paul Stamets. That book was out, but the "companion book", Growing Gourmet and Medicinal Mushrooms was on the shelf. I checked it out and have started reading.
Question; If you have read both books, what is the focus of each? If I just read this one, will I be missing anything?
you will be missing a bit, the mushroom cultivator will give you more info specificly on psilocybes as well as some greatly detailed help with many areas of mushroom cultivation... I recomend buying The Muchroom Cultivator and for GGMM, thats really a book to be started after you have a bit of experience, look at psilocybes as being a 'beginers' mushroom ans the Gourmet are a bit more advanced...
Don't know about the book you're reading now, but I can say for sure that The Mushroom Cultivator is definitely worth the money. It covers everything from sterile techniques, strain development and selection, bulk substrates, pinning strategies, contamination problems, etc. I've been reading for the past couple of months on everything about shrooms, and this book covers all of it and MORE. Absolutely invaluable.
