Heating method
    #3311333 - 11/02/04 10:16 PM (12 years, 6 months ago)

Do anyone of you know of a creative method that can be used for incubating, and then adapt to work with a fruiting chamber? I've thought of maybe using a small heating blanket to wrap around the jars, and when fruiting maybe cover the terrarium with the blanket while it fruits. Do you think this is a good idea, and do you have other ideas..? Thanks alot

heating blanket may create too much heat on the jars for incubation and I think I would stray from that as it would be difficult to determine the actual temperature of the jars. You MAY be able to use a heating blanket if it the jars were encased with the heating blanket not actually touching any of the jars. This would allow you to determine temperature of the actual air surrounding the jars.

Personally, I take 2 rubbermaid containers. The first container, I place my inoculated jar inside. The 2nd one, I fill with enough water so that when I take container 1 and place it inside, the water will come a few inches up the side(of container 1.) I place a submersible aquarium heater in the water, and adjust the settings so that my temperature in container 1 is above 80(84 is ideal)

Hope this helps

The thing is, I have to be discreet, sorry I forgot to mention that factor. But I really have no space for 3 tubs. Someday I will try it, for now tho, i gotta find a way to keep them safe, clean, and warm, in a small area.

So you do not have enough room for 2 rubbermaid containers?

I am drawing a blank trying to be innovative. I don't feel the heating blanket is a good idea though.

A space heater in a closet might work, but you really have to monitor the temperature levels very closely at first(to make sure you dont go much more above 85.)
