Need Amanita ID
    #3311108 - 11/02/04 09:11 PM (12 years, 7 months ago)

Well today my friend took me out to a massive anamita patch, its actually right along a very busy road. I go past there all the time and i've never seen them before even though they are in plain sight.
anyway the patch was not even fifteen feet off the road under some massive trees. there must of been at least 40 amanitas growing in this one little area. Of course I brought my camera and snapped some pics... i got my foot in one to compare size. there were a few reaalllly huge ones bigger then my dinner plates. neato.
If anyone can ID exactly what kind these are that would be helpful.

Amanita Muscaria, one way or the other, would be safe to imagine, though, ingeneral, when making posts about Amanita id's, it is crucial to show the base of the stem, and thus to dig it up completely. I am enamored with the color- once I found Amanitas of that color here in NC and they aren't even supposed to grow here. Where are you at, friend?

Are those red in the center? It may be my moniter but those appear to be awfully tan, almost pantherina like.

From the second pic they look like they have concentric rings, so it is probably not a look alike.

the top ones look a bit like pantherina, kind of tan colored, pretty sure they are regular ole' amanita muscaria just very mature.

where abouts in B.C. you live I would come and harvest those guys and eat them, I live 30 minutes away from the city of Van. Yes they are edible and somewhat hallucinogenic, you must prepare them properly www.erowid.org has the facts about heating them in an oven to change bad acid to edible acid that won't make you sick. Just air drying these will make you very sick.

I have only eaten the yellow genus of them: Amanita Muscaria Var. Formosa, you need to eat alot to feel a hard trip like 15 grams.

No read up on how to prepare them on www.erowid.org if you are going to go through with trying to trip off them, some people say the experience on them is awful, i found the formosas to be an alright trip only did 8 grams though. nothing too serious, and had no nausea, your supposed to smoke marijauna to keep down the nausea.
