Don't get your shorts in a wad, youngster! It's obvious- areas of lesser population in Eastern time zone= early results= Kerry for the duration. Voting machine problems. I wish somebody did have more- that's why I'm on the net- I should just sleep till tonight but I can't face missing a riot or televised act of election-day mischief.

does anybody know when a state declares who their electoral votes go to? as in i would think it would not be till mid-night when east coast states say "we choose this dude"

seems like high voter turn out which bodes well for Kerry. as for poll returns, the 1st one will be reporting in under an hour, but the counting will be well into the night if everything runs normally (unlike in 2000, of course...) the latest zogby poll show Kerry wining with 311 EC votes www.zogby.com - just released in the last hour. shroomery election has kerry up by 41% how's that for the latest?

It looks like so far we have Bush winning the popular vote, but Kerry winning the electoral vote. Talk about irony.

My hope(and it look like it might come true) is for Kerry to win the electoral votes while Bush wins the popular vote, so liberals will finally shut up about the electoral college.

Getting rid of the electoral college would help libertarians far more than dems or reps.

I disagree. The electoral college helps people who aren't in battleground states feel more secure voting their conscience. There won't be a Libertarian president anyway until we have a lot more popular approval anyway.

hmmm...
I guess just eliminating the electoral college and moving to a direct popular vote wouldn't help third parties at all.
However, changing the electoral college so that not all of the votes from a state go to a single candidate (as Colorado is proposing) would help third party candidates, because a parties electors can decide where those electoral college votes will go. This would be an enormous boost to third parties. http://www.nationalreview.com/gregg/gregg200410050833.asp
Amusing quote from the above article:
Quote:
As currently constructed, the winner-take-all system used in 48 states fosters the existence of two broadly based and moderate political parties. Because they cannot win whole states and so cannot hope to win any electoral-college votes, radical third parties are kept in check and our elections have a stabilizing force on our democracy.

Is there any possibility that the result will be delayed due to law suits and fuck ups?

It could very well be contested. After the Florida debacle in 2000, they're really watching the polls...

All I have to say is: WHAT THE HELL DOES IT TAKE FOR PEOPLE TO VOTE AGAINST PARTY LINES?!?!
It seems to me like Bush has just been a disaster from the start. Nearly everything he's touched has exploded. I just don't understand it.
It seems very close though. I'll be ordering a one-way ticket to the Netherlands if things start going downhill. Hell, maybe I'll go there anyway.
-------------------- The very nature of experience is ineffable; it transcends cognitive thought and intellectualized analysis. To be without experience is to be without an emotional knowledge of what the experience translates into. The desire for the understanding of what life is made of is the motivation that drives us all. Without it, in fear of the experiences what life can hold is among the greatest contradictions; to live in fear of death while not being alive.
