so, let me get this straight. you're using opera & you've simply changed the user agent to be something other than opera? it doesnt matter what the user agent says (MSIE), you're still using the opera browser. User agent strings basically identify what browser you're surfing with - it can be modified to trick dumb websites that restrict alternative browsers.

it's a good idea to change the UA back to opera, firefox, mozilla, whatever when you're done with the site so it shows webmasters that not everyone uses IE. you gotta represent.

yea but my school website doesnt support opera

i had to change my identity to msie or firefox to gain access to stuff like my message board

When you make contact with the webserver, your browser sends a short message telling the server what kind of browser you're using. Normally the message is somthing like "Opera v something something on windows or linux or whatever..." With identify..., you select the message that's sent back to the server, basically fooling the website.

You're still using Opera, but your school's webserver thinks you're using IE. Works just fine most of the time.
