Trying to make an incubator

Ok, i'm finally making an incubator, because the only problems i've had so far are with colonization. It should be hot outside right now, but my space has dropped down to like 64* from the reg. 74-82. I got a 38 quart sterilite tub (short & wide), and a 12x15" heating pad (with 3 settings). I figure if i wrap the pad in towels and put it in the bottom it should work pretty nice. I'm just worried about the bottoms of the first layer of jars getting too hot. Someone please help!!!

Your idea will work, and as long as you have perlite in your caontainer the heating pad wont cause uneven heating problems. I tried a heating pad once and had a lot of problems with it though. Plus their not safe to leave on all the time, they can start a fire if not turned off once in a while. You would be mch better off if you got a fish tank aquarium heater, and put that inside a large jar full of water, then just put it into your incubator, this also allows you to adjust temperature easier.

Hey, thanks for the tip man. No fukn shit though, i went shopping for about two hours after i set up the tub with the heat pad on. I came back and the thermometer lying on the pad read almost 100*! After i pulled myself together I turned the bastard off. I feel pretty dumb though...I had a sweet 5-15 gal. 50 Watt aquarium heater. I couldn't find a TEK on how to use it, and i didn't want to boil (or submerse) my jars. So i took it back and got the heat pad. Dammit.

Put the heating pad on top and humidify with perlite.

puscle is correct, the pad should be on top.
never place weight on a heating pad, serious fire hazard.
