What's your Motivation?

This election day here in the U.S. has got me thinking about what motivates people in their lives. I notice that many many people are voting out of fear, because they are scared of what *might* happen and their chosen candidate says that he will do everything to prevent their fears from seeing the light of day.
Fear is probably the most effective way to secure votes.
Far fewer people are motivated to vote by their aspirations or ideas of what could make society greater for everyone and instead chose to vote based on what they believe will make society greater for themselves and their immediate family.
My personal opinion is that acting out of fear is not always healthy, and even though it may take more effort, acting out of love is always a greater deed than one based on self-preservation.
That said I make no claims of being a posterchild for such a way of life. Fear is an ingrained human response which is not so easily transcended as I may like to think. So I ask all of my fellow companions in life to please consider your motivations and question the parts of yourself from which they stem.

This is why the US is stuck with a corrupt two party system
Fear prevents them from voting for a third party, even if they feel that party would do the best job.
After all, a vote for C is a vote for A! (assuming B is favoured over A)
