    #3308222 - 11/02/04 08:10 AM (19 years, 6 months ago)

ok so i made my tub in tub 2 nights ago and ive been monitoring the temp.. i got a digital thermometer and it reads the indoor and out-door temp.. well i ive been tryin to get it up to atleast 80F but for some reason it wont go that high.. the highest its been at was i think 73F and right now its at 70F and my aquarium heater has been on the highest setting available.. but when i switch the thermometer over to "outdoor" it goes up to 85F..should i be reading the outdoor temp?? the inside of the aquarium seems warm..

if its a long wire with a lil sensor on the end....thats the outdoor sensor.

You are aiming for 82-84f inside.....

Try throwing a different thermometer in the terrarium if it feels warm just to see if maybe yours is reading wrong?

Other than that it might be that you need a different aquarium heater :frown:

Yeah, I'd also suggest you check your thermometer first... You can check the other stuff once you verify your instruments aren't lying to ya.

my experience with my tub-in-tub is that the temp the sensor is picking up is the temperature of the plastic or whatever it's touching. the air will be a few degrees cooler. whatever you put into the tubs will be the same temp as the water bath, maybe a few degrees cooler. so use that temp as your gague. of course, you should also get a cheap thermometer and throw it into the water just to see how accurate your digital is.

Temp sensors are just a piece of calibrated resistor wire. It's actually called thermister. The resistence goes up as the temp goes up. If the calibration was off, the temp reading will be off. Some circuits have gain functions to manually calibrate it, but most don't. If you got a bad reading now, it'll most likely to stay bad. And if you are off by 3 degrees at 80F, it won't be off by 3F at 50F... Just return it and get a new one if it's broke.
