These are couple of jars with different recipes.
They were both inoculated on the 24th. Left-1/4 cup vermiculite 1/2 cup BRF 50cc water-colonized 10-30. Right- 1/4 cup verm 1/2 cup BRF 45cc water-still not done.
They were both inoculated with 1 day old syringe with 5% dex solution. 1cc per site, 4 sites per jar.
All the jars with 50cc are done colonizing. Only few 45cc jars are done.
I think the best water mixture is 50cc... but have to wait and see how well they fruit.

Hi Sam, I notice that you use much more BRF then the PF tek says. Which reason do you have for that just testing or..?

Thanks for the pics. I used a bottle of water (500ml) and a little more. So that's roughly 50-52cc per jar; although they look a little dry. Hopefully, like I said, the 2ccs of Cambo in each jar will add some water.

Hmm...wait a second. Isn't it 1/2 cup vermiculite and 1/4 cup BRF? (Not the other way around?) At least that's what you told me in PMs.

I'm experimenting with formulas... I'm trying to see if there is better mix for fast colonization and still good fruiting... for newbie's benefit.

But the max fruiting formula that you gave me--1/2 cup verm. and 1/4 cup BRF--has worked very well for you, correct?

And yeah.. I used 1/4 cup verm and 1/2 cup BRF. I'm testing the hypothesis that old max fruiting formula was based on no alternate source of water(i.e. double end casing, dunk/roll).
At this point, if they dont' fruit well, at least they'll case almost like grains. The concentration of substrate is substantially higher, and will be close to grains but with simplicity of PF tek(no PC required and you get the security of the verm layer)

Yeah. Max fruiting formula works well. I'm just messing around to see if there is better. Use max fruiting formula. Once you make the jars, don't question the content like some people.
Good luck.

Does it really matter? They colonized in 6 days..how much faster do you want?

Relax! I dont want it faster, I was just wondering from curiousity, trying to understand the working of mycelium.
The less substrate the faster it colonizes then? but less food for the shroomies so shorter process in time from inoculation to harvest, with lower yields is my theory. In the end it wont matter THAT much? More substrate longer cycle etc etc
Bye, MF

You don't want the mycelium to consume all the nutes. You just want it to grow over them fairly thoroughly. Using less BRF and more verm doesn't seem to slow the colonization any. Maybe a bit faster actually...
I'll post the results eventually.

Hi Sam,
That is exactly what I was assuming! That the jars with less BRF and more Verm would colonize faster....
Have a nice day!
