newbie flood
    #3306211 - 11/01/04 06:42 PM (19 years, 4 months ago)

anyone notice the flood of very mean spirited or very beerweedish newbies lately? well, not so much lately, it has been going on for a while. They all end up here because they can't get into otd, it's a shame, pub mods have their hands full.

i think it is that the shroomery is so popular and when you type in google to search how to grow shrooms the first thing that pops up is the shroomery.

not saying all newbies are bad, but I've noticed alot of very mean spirited newbies (who do not act like our old trolls who pop up every now and them), who are very beerweedish...

a google search for "mushrooms" yielded the shroomery as the eighth result on the first page.

I think we ought to send them to OTD for a few months first, then if they survive they can test the waters of the PUB!

Of course its hard to play nice after a stint in OTD!  They'll probably all show up here proclaiming "I am Sir-tokes-a-lot and I love goatse!!"

I think it's hilarious how beerweed has become an adjective....

to me the problem seems to lie in the fact that new members are posting before they really get a feel for the purpose of the board. I think the information here is very valuable however and should be accecible to everyone. So why not disable new members ability to post for a set amount of time, or giving them a maximum number of posts per week for their first few weeks. This way if they're not really interested in being valuable members of the community, maybe they'll lose interest when they can't post for a while. Just an idea, obviously I don't have the authority to impliment it, nor would I want to without hearing others opinions on it.

i remember i registered so i could use the search function. and since ive been here about 10 months now i only got like 190 posts or so i guess ive never seen a point in posting useless things, like otd is funny to read sometimes but i dont post there often, most of my posts are either asking questions or trying to answer questions that i am sure i know the answer to.

maybe an idea could be when you first sign up you are allowed certain posts (like hooties idea) and as thier post counts increases or the ratings rise (perhaps a special rating that is viewable to those who have been here awhile and it deals with like community service or something) they would be allowed to post more, eventually they would have full priviledges like other people.

just a thought or two.

Yeah the whole thing about newbies not being able to get into OTD SUCKS IMO.
It's done nothing for the site, just brought down the level of posting in the pub.

beerweed is just a moron who will kill himself with his drug use if it wasn't for us... or kill himself getting out of bed, basicly a darwin case.

i agree completly, its just ive noticed at least on my campus many frat guys think way too highly of themselves because they drink 6 out of 7 nights a week. like ive met some cool frat guys, and my best friend on campus is in a sorority. its just in general my expierences with them have been well not that great.

beerweeds may think they can drink and do drugs, but they dont know drinking till they meet the retired army guy at the old legion thats there opening-closing.  bragging about drinking a 12 pack and hurling is fucking dumb and beerweedish.  braging about drinking a 24 pack and taking out 200 germans, now theres a title one can hold proud.  frats are pussies, their like fisherman without real jobs :smirk:

you can drink/consume as much as your want, but its nothing if you cant handle it....

There's much much more to be seen and to be experienced than will ever be allowed for those with less than noble ambitions...

For those that have yet to realize it.
Even though that is so, to realize it is one thing, to understand it is another. One may not undertand it yet they may, if they so choose so, to realize it and accept it. Without reason whatsoever and without fear.

Im a newb.

One reason you're probably seeing a lot of "beerweedish" posts is because all of the sudden OTD was just taken away. I wasnt even a poster as much as a viewer. Now i have to make at least 40 posts in order to get it back. Thats no reason to be rude but it is a reason to be abrupt. Whenever I can say anything I try to post so I can get back to viewing OTD. If anyones rude they might be just pissed that they have to make 40 posts just to view a forum which I think is kind of shitty....

That is true, I've never really thought of it, but the fact that 40 posts will get you OTD priviledges only supports post-whoring. If there's going to be a restriction it really should be a time one only.

Of course its hard to play nice after a stint in OTD!  They'll probably all show up here proclaiming "I am Sir-tokes-a-lot and I love goatse!!"

Ohhh that post made me laugh so hard.

I'm gonna start using that IRL! I think it could be used as a verb or a noun also.

"Hey dude! Don't be such a beerweed!"
or
"Dude! Don't beerweed out on me!"

Hanky and I have used that once or twice at home here.  ie) Dammit you are SUCH a bloody Beerweed.

Here are a few things I made when good old Beerweed was around.  He seems to be immortalized.  When he's around he's SUCH an irritation - and when he's gone you almost miss him.

UncleLuke:  That's not true.  Hanky has sent me a total of 3 PMs.

for some reason mndfreeze's name was changed to barbi, his ratings where delated, and another account with the name mndfreeze sprung up that had his ratings but none of his posts, his post count is like 60 something... I have no idea how that happened.
