Casing & PMP

Hello all,
In a week or two I will be starting my first PF-TEK grow. In a PMP.
But I want to grow some casings in there as well in the future.
Question is how do I lower the humidity in the PMP? The airpump will have 2 hoses and so 2 airstones in the Geolite/Water. Taking one away will maybe lower RH but also means 50% less fresh air.
How do i get an casing optimum humidity in the PMP?
Thanks very much,
MF

just keep the humidity the same. AFOAF had good success with cakes and casings in the same fruiting chamber. You may still want to fan depending on how much air they move and the size of your chamber.

leave a tiny gap in the lid. Just put it on loosely maybe?

Since I am energy aware (some call it lazy but.. ) Id rather not fan separate the airpump circulates min/max 200 - 480 liter an hour.
The pmp itself contains about 100 liters totally.
Does your FOAF use the case RH or the cake RH?
Thanks, MF

I rather skip holes unless I cannot avoid it. Then I could put aquarium filter stuff in them but, Id rather not put xtra holes in the lid..
Thanks!

he doesn't even know the actual RH. He has a rubbermaid with about an inch of perlite on the bottom wiht water. He keeps a heating pad underneath it which is on low 12 hours a day. This makes a nice environment. If he wasn't such a cheap ass, he would buy a ultrasonic or a cool mist.

Ok thanks!
any other suggestions from people how to influence (lower) your RH in the PMP?

480L per hour?! Wow, that's a big air pump. are you using more than one pump per pod?

i find that the pmp builds a lot of humidity,100% all the time, if you dont have the correct amount of holes in the lid; i have built two different size pmps and they work well, but for both of my pods i need to fan several times a day, and i swear if i could add a small computer fan in the lid or get a formula for how many holes per size of container to use, it would be fully automated. that way you could just get two lids one with a bunch of holes for casings and one with a few less holes for cakes. and i use find that the use of tyvek seems to slow air flow quite a bit, the tyvek does breathe, but i usually just leave it off, stuff is going to get in the pmp when you fan anyway. peace 00

Hi Sam,
I have not seen it yet (ordered over internet) but I think the size aint that big it is a kind of strong though. There is flow control on it, with as I understood it a minimun of 200 liter an hour. That is twice the size of the pmp. I think it is not bad, in nature with a little wind the air may refreshes twice per second?
No I use one pump in the PMP but it has 2 exits which I both intend to use.
Any suggestions on lowering the RH after the cakes are out so it is best for casing?

With that high RH contams like cobweb come easier.
Since my lid is not really transparant I want to cut a piece out and replace it with plastic(foil?) or perspex. I could make a cake piece and a casing piece of perspex with some more holes in it.
Makes sense? Maybe after I tried cakes once (a must imho) I will only grow casings I dont know. I can just use one lid with some holes and stuff them with aquafilterstuff or cover with tape or tyvek when "caking" and take that away when casing! Ow how smart!
But do you really think I need to fan with a pump that refreshes the air inside 4 times an hour?
Thanks,
MF

Yeah.. you can do couple of things to lower RH. But I highly suggest you keep it as is for now. If you have problems with condensation on the casing, you should try lowering it.
How to lower RH is PMP. 1. Take 1 of 2 wands out of the water and place it in the corner. Will lower RH to about 90%
Or
2. Pour more water in to soak more of the geolite/perlite/etc. This can drop RH down to 80%, so be careful. Add a little bit of water at a time and let it stablize over 30 min minimum.
Good luck

Hi Sam,
Very usefull and very appreciated information my man!
With option 1 with "wand" you mean the airstone?
Thank you very much for the advice!
