Liquid Culture Tips
    #3305705 - 11/01/04 04:23 PM (19 years, 5 months ago)

What tips or tricks has everyone found to work well for them in their experiences making liquid mycelium cultures(either karo or honey)?

I don't have any tips; but the method I used from scatmanrav works great. Use a 1/2 pint jar. Poke 1 hole in the center and place a piece of tyvek over it. Fill a 1/2 pint jar with 100ml of water and 1 tablespoon of Karo. Then PC for 15 minutes (only!) at 15psi. Let cool and inoculate with your favorite spore solution and then place a band-aid over the inoculate hole and incubate at 84-86F for about 10 days. That's all there is to it. Good luck.

Thanks for the reply, Money. I've always used polyfill or filter discs. Never used tyvek before. I've always seen a lot of people talking about it on here though. You usually get it from the Post Office?

hmm i oust the working area before cooking,i then lysol the inside of my jars out and lids. i then keep everyhting on paper plates before cooking. i boiled my jars for 35 minutes low temp. i had tvek under lid with coffee filters on top with foil..i trim up the cofee filters so they don't just soak up a bunch of excess water. i have my jars in a cabinet with a dresser 2 heating pads,1 is under the jars with a towel between low setting then another is against the cabinet wall for extra heat in the area. temps stay at 84 to 86 last couple times checking. i also have my jars in a insulted bag for cold hot drinks food forgot to mention it retains heat

well consider your situation with ordering spores my friend.i could careless about anything else that is or is not. eruope may have more choices for drugs of choice ot be legal but my friend america is the freedom of all the world..so we have stupid laws that say we can't have this nor that..thats ok they can't stop me..from my freedom of choice so in reality we all have freedom .just some have to be careful about the choices they make..

i say. keep the honey content down so that the water is more clear...itll help u see the myc. colonies better. and put a hole on the side of the jar, as u will probably use a lot of karo and the needle dosnt go too far down in the jar. this way u can tip it:).

Is that the only reason, just for visibility to keep honey % low?

Yes thought of other thing, that the needle will have trouble reaching, so I used a tiny jar with only 3/4 inch of air between surface and lid.

My karowater is rather yelloweish, bit pisscolour.. :frown:

I inject about 10 cc of sugar water(1cc molasses to 300 ml water)
inside a testube slant that I have grown over with myc then attach it to a little motor that does about 30 RPM.
I leave a little air bubble inside to stir things up and let it run for 3 days.
The mycelium grow thru the water and some of the PDA dissolves.
Pop it suck it up and inject your whatever.
It covers the seed with liquid food and the colonization is creepy fast.:jester:

I just use one teaspoon of karo light in 100ml of water. half pint normal jar. after two weeks it looked good, shake once in a while. Trash it up with a needle and suck it up. I inoculated the karo with an agar wedge though, so a pure strain might develop different than just spores. quicker though.

as for holland, any restrictions as to mushroom growing? as in, if the cops find one, as long as theres no evidence that they're being dried and packaged/shipped out of the country, its okay?

Dont know about exact laws, this year they got more tightassed and now official dried shrooms cant be sold, but they are just in all the smartshops we have in the cities. Online they only sell fresh shrooms now.
To growing I dont know, they are not to paranoid about it, I think it is just like with weed. If you have it small scale it wil be ok, if you are a large commercial dude they might nick your stuff.

When I was in the army I got busted once cause I had gone from duty. MP picked me up at home and I had a joint in my pocket plus 3 or 4 dry grams.
When they found it they said what you want, that we throw it away and 4get about it or that we put it on paper and that you have to answer questions to the military judge. I asked what will be my punishment, 25$ fine the ysaid.
Ok toss the stuff I said. Since I payd 12,5$ for it...

And next day when I ws a free man they gave me my joint back.

Wow what he tasted super! The taste of freedom!

From what all I read when I lived in Amsterdam is that the laws are in place, but they are soft laws that are not enforced. I never wanted to leave, stupid company needing me back in the states... :frown:

Selling fresh rooms is not illegal, but drying is now official forbidden but hardly enforced.

About growing etc I dont know, I am not paranoid/scared at all. Its no priority.... Just like the 100 of 1000's of weed growers are no priority...
