When Is It Too Late To Harvest? 1

a handful of my mushrooms dropped their spores a couple days ago. I haven't picked them yet because I want to harvest all the mushrooms at the same time, and there are some which are still growing. are the mushrooms which dropped their spores still safe to eat? have they lost any potency?

too late... that would be when they begin to rot...
the mushrooms are still safe after tehy drop spores, as for the potency, its really kinda tricky there, they maintain the same psilocybin content and may possibly loose some but they increase in weight, this makes them seem less potent. the psilocybin production stops when teh spores drop

Prisoner..where is more information on the research done to prove production on actives stops with the spores? I have only heard of claims of this and never seen any proof or claims from someone who actually researched it.
Long as not rotten their cool..I've let them go for a while then the caps turn way up like this:

The most logical reason that i've read about harvesting before they are fully mature is the issue of spore deposits. Some sources have said that spore deposits on the casing layer works to inhibit further primordia formation, hence the preference of picking before the spores drop.

Spores drop on every one of my casings..no problems with multiple flushes (up to 8). Only problem it can be is the caps turn purple and when it dries they look black. Not as pretty as when theyre golden.

There is no evidence that the psilocybin 'stops' when the spores drop - although it is likely. the spores will actually inhibit future pin formation so its better to harvest before your casing is purple.
