Is there anyway out of society?
Is there anywhere I can go?
I just want to get away from it all and become buddhist or somehitng, a monk.
Is there some county, llike thailand or somehting that would just take people in and you could be one?
Im tired of all the greed and ignorance.

exactly my thoughts, Ellemy... I'm taking an environmental science class right now, and it is teaching me how corrupt and flawed our political and economic systems are, and how much effect they have on society... its a grim, future, too... blah. my only release is living the way i believe is "right"... like having no car, buying locally/organically as much as i can, eat hardly any meat, only buy used clothes and not buying into corporations trying to sell me consumption of their product, using energy efficient appliances, smoke weed, pick and eat mushrooms, love my boyfriend/family/friends with no bounds and do things that make me happy like spending time in nature and reading, trying not to negatively impact anyone and caring about others and your community.... blah blah you get my drift. i think thats all you can do.... i know how you feel though... *sigh*

its kind of like... society isnt going to change, so you have to find the change you want to see within yourself...
whats that quote? sorry if i botch it...
"you must be the change you want to see in the world"
i always really liked that, cause what else can you do, really?

Yeah i dont like the way society(american cause thats all i know at this point)is going. I find myself going that sucks, WTF, OMG Why, this is gonna be bad and etc more and more everyday. Thats a really great way to live your life Psily. I like that quote. People are by nature followers, thats why people in large numbers can be really stupid. If you try to teach people what you have learned through your lifestyle people will follow.

they will follow her ideas and beliefs. I didnt mean follow Psily. I think if more people lived like her the world would be a better place. We all follow something religon, politics, etc. To only follow yourself it would be hard to change the way the world works people are to different. Simsu thats a good point about people being generally good but it takes teaching good beliefs to the young that make good people. organization of good ideas and good people on a common goal whether that be world change or somthing else

There are many of us who don't like some of what is going on in the world, but what good is running away? "Be the change you want to see in the world" This is a good current thread by a wise shroomite that might help you feel better http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Cat/0/Number/3302024/an/0/page/0/gonew/1#UNREAD

quite the opposit i think... if people only followed them selves things would change MUCH faster... it's a change of view we need! if we were able to see all the conseqenses of our actions for what they are and be responsible for them (without blaming god or the gov or mom and dad or whatever) things would change much faster then if we were TOLD to be one way or the other!
of course this is a little "utopian" becouse in such a society there is great potential for people to take advantage of all sorts of stuff but that does not mean it can't work... we just have to eliminate the reasons for being greedy and corupt (sp?)

I say that all of us who are fed up with the corruption of our societies begin a new civilization in the Brazilian rain forest. We will form huts and job responsibilities. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is what all is edible in the forest, but I'm sure that with our green-thumbs we could figure it out. I just look forward to the times after our jobs are done for the day, sitting around the fire all as a group of friends passing around the 12" doob and a bag of our fungi friends. Ah, dreams.. what life's all about.
Though in all actuallity, I do plan on going to south america early next summer... more to follow later on in the year

There is only one answer
Do some research for the next year, and eating, what grows wild in the place you want to live. When you have the skills to live from the land go for it.
Bet your back within 2 years??? Humans need each other. Seen this exact behavior. Works for awhile. You may enjoy yourself.
But the peace your looking for is like Emely said..... WITHIN

Yea, I imagine I'd be back in two years as well if I were going alone. It'd be such an easier transition if it were a group of 10 or 15 people looking to start a small community somewhere.
But then again, who knows. I still want to try it, ya know? Dreams are something that shouldn't ever be given up.

im from brazil... i lived in rio de janeiro by the slums... very shoddy down to earth people... most people walk around barefoot and without shirts (the guys) and its incredible how different everything is over there... it is a big community, everyone in the TOWN knows each other everyone... alot of people work and even the ones that work chill with the other people in the towns all day. everyone is always over each others houses.... there are big mountains full of trees and waterfalls and nature like 10 miles away from my house. i didnt live in the big resort area... more like the towns but they arent small town or nothing... oh yeh and on the corner bars everyone starts singing and making music with watever they can get... my dad used to run a pizzaria therre and we had bands play there n shit. but the greedy dickheads fuck it all up... they would literally take someone hostage bring them to a place where they were gonna expand the towns and there were only streets there are the time no buildings and i remember going there to see a dead person burnt inside of a big tire and with his hands tied. they would rob u and kill u maybe for a pair of sneekers... and i would always wake up to gunshots and shit... my dad got stuck up mad times running the pizzaria and the number of relatives and friends and quickly depleating... but the herb is fucking great u dont even know.... well anyways i wonder why everyone in america keeps to themselves?lets start a revolution. lets all move in someplace... maybe the amazon...

If we all went off and became hermits where would be now. Nowhere, livin in some shitty shack till the ripe old age of 30 when we die of the common cold because we dont have medicine. There would be no precious internet, which all of us here obviously use. No computers, tv (whether its a good or bad thing), no recorded music, nothing. Im sorry but you have to be part of society if you want any of the shit that you use to have fun, stay alive or whatever. You just have to accept this and make your life the way you want it and forget all the negative shit. You have to look on the bright side since not all of society is bad.
