Stop helping then, you should help without expactations, just "give". Now you dont get what you want/expect and you get a bit pissed. Strange attitude for a helpfull person.
If you think your "student" hasnt understand it, explain again. If you dont like that, dont try to teach me. My english is not native (dont know the difference between preserve / conserve) that is one thing plus I am a total n00b in growing etcetera.
If you read the posts you will see different advice, some say keep them in a jar, or in honey, some say dont try to conserve them they will lose taste.
After reading all I decided to (when my growattempts will succeed) dry a part, put some fresh ones in jars or in honey. Experimental.
I dont agree with your negative vibes, what is your goal with it?

don't do food saver. It makes the mushie way tooo mushie... actually way soggy would be better put. Anyways, after 3 days, it'll start to drown on its own water...

Hello Sam,
Ehm, what is soggy? Sometimes hard the differences in language.
So you are saying that after 3 days the fresh mushrooms will be bad anyway?
Thanks,
MF

I don't know if you would call it bad. It wasn't rotting by no means. But it was really sitting on water. I thought Vacuum would help dry it, but just the opposite. It just drains a whole bunch of water out and then mushrooms just sit on them.
I've never bought any fresh shroomies before, so I don't know how long they last in a paper bag. But I'd suggest you keep it that way and don't go near a foodsaver until they are cracker dry.
The mushrooms dried and stored in foodsaver is great so far. But fresh ones in there get messy. I'm sure you can eat them though if you were really desperate. I just seemed to have a lot of shrooms on hand to go near that ugly gooey looking thing.

Just put them in a brown paper bag in the fridge, they wont turn to mush like they would in a plastic bag, and will probably last a week or so in good condition. Any longer than that and you'd need to dry them.

If you freeze them, when they thaw out they will be soggy (waterlogged).

As I ALREADY stated prior to your attitude.. TO CONSERVE would be to eat fewer so they last longer TO PRESERVE is to store them for long periods of time (drying).
Prior to ricelicker saying the conversation and me saying I was chuckling about it I said:
"Dry them if your trying to PRESERVE them. If your trying to CONSERVE them then you should just eat less at a time, this will conserve them to make sure you have enough for later."
Telling you what the difference is. Thats all he was pointing out. If you want to get all pissy because I help you and then say I chuckled because even after correcting you you said conserve once again..you never once mentioned the word preserve even though EVERYONE who posted used that word. We did "explain again" as you put it multiple times. If you don't get it, I'm gonna chuckle to myself. Its not negative its just how it is.
Dry shrooms can be put in the freezer but MUST be in an airtight GLASS jar. Plastic bags and containers will slowly allow water in over time. Airtight glass jars would have a rubber seal around the top too..

ok so now that those things are set in stone.. I would like to know what the official terminology is for keeping freash (wet) mushrooms good for longer with out drying them. Is that preserveing?

a good way to keep fresh mushrooms is definately honey! i've done it before and still have some of the first mushrooms i grew in my honey jar... the honey jar is the excess that i don't consume (usually aborts... ), as well as throwing in a few for good measure. after a month or two, the honey will start to turn purple as the actives have leached out (but this seems to be where dry shroomies shine in honey). i'm sure they'd keep for a month in honey, just cut them up into small pieces and throw them in a jar with honey. works great! (edited because i realized my wording wasn't super clear)

Just dry them out. It doesn't make noticeable difference in potency. If you at least fan dry for couple of days, it'll last you longer, not as long as cracker dry, but still longer than fresh.

I was not responding to you scatmanrav, but if you want to pick up the glove, feel free. I aint picking up this one. Thanks for finally explaining the difference between preserving and conserving. I thought conserving is keeping as it is (conservative) which is what I actually want, how to store mushrooms that stay rather fresh for about a month. But in the meantime some other helpfull people have explained that keeping them in a paper bag in the fridge for a week is about the highest one can achieve. Maybe the "honey-tek" is fine too but I don twant to eat them honeysoaked. Hey no-one is forcing you to help noobs like me! So if you dont like it or it is useless then dont do it!! I wont be hurt. Regards, MF

When you preserve something you keep it for a long time without touching it. Be it fresh or dry, it doesn't matter. Drying is a form of preseving mushrooms. The only long term one. The best way to preserve the mushrooms fresh is in a brown paper bag in the fridge but they shouldnt be kept like this for more then a week (really more then a few days). If they're going to be kept for longer either stick them in honey or dry them..as I assume youve found out.
It IS useless to help ignorant people. It's NOT useless to help people who are willing to take the time and actually learn and not be oblivious. It can often be hard to determine which is which from the start of the thread.
