I am a Canadian and I guess i'm kinda pluggin' Canada but just wanted to bring it up to the attention that "recreational drugs" will probably be decriminalized or even legalized. Now our government has created a special council to study the issues and to make a desision within the next 18 months(SO LONG) Anyways this council seems like they are so far swaying towards LEGALIZATION. So even if your in America cheer because if we get it the odds are you will to quite soon.

Sweet!
What do most cops do when they catch you w/ weed or shrooms? (in canada).
Are they pretty cool with that, or am I asking for a goofy generalization.

I heard it's only a fine now, at least for small amounts.. if it's a lot they will charge you with trafficing, not absolutly sure though but correct me if i'm wrong... I think Canada's alright but I don't like the crappy school system.

Yea if they catch with under three grams they just let you off usually with a warning. Trafficking in eastern Canada you get burnt. In BC its even cooler for like 2 years there was an illegal marijuana bar open to the public and the cops jus fined them like so little. Also when cultivating there you dont even get in trouble they just usually take the equipment. Also we have LEGAL hemp growing for farmers with US does not have yet. Our school system is actually better than the American system with 13 grades and two preschool levels. Its our Universities and Colleges that arnt as good, but they are getting alot better. Our only problems right now it with stinkin strikes in Ontario caused by our provincial government.

I want to live in BC soo bad... They have a lot more wild shrooms and it seems like people always get "good shit" from there. It's a really nive province.

Yea, its beautiful there, its so unidustrialized in most places. Don't go to Vancouver thou. its just any normal city pointless. They also have the best herb there BC bud, quite amazing its pure orange fibres and chrystals

Umm, sorry to tell you but Canada has a pretty good school system, esp. at the post-secondary level.
As to drugs.
Weed, well, small amounts I've heard lots of times where cops ignore it.
Shrooms you probably will be arrested.

yeah BC is pretty ok on the drug issue. far from great though.

Jean Cretchien (sp?) has publically said that they are still researching but not to expect any legalizations taking place any time soon. I can highly doubt that anything will be legalized within the next 2-6 years, though Canada is more liberal than the US, esp. BC...

HAHAHA Jean Chretian has really no say on this issue cause he is not dirrectly involved. Also he said that before they decided to create this council so ovisoly they have intention of changing the drug laws in someways.

Actually from what I've seen, the commitee isn't really looking at legallization, but at a change in Canada's current drug laws. Many people have taken this to mean legallization, but that's not what the point was.
Of course, I've also heard of a few members of the commitee stating that the DECRIMINALIZATION of marijuana, not legalization, will be an important topic for the commitee.

The deadline for ottawa to change the law on marijuana posession prohibition is July 31st. I read this week in the paper that the canadian police organisation is strongly aggainst legalisation and all that, but they are fucking retards according to me.
the prime minister is on either side, because this whole issue is not in the liberal party program at all

Actually that deadline is just in ontario and its a little off. But recently so like medical marijuana took the gov. to court an dthe judge ruled that either they change the law in a year (havent done yet) or it will be legal. Actually the Toronto police officers strongly agree with it even the CHIEF, he states that they are wasting to much time on all these minor offences, when real crimes are happening. So hopefully our incompetent gov. realizes that they can make pure money off this industry and control almost anything (has to be better than the black market thou)

Marijuana is already legal in Canada for medicinal purposes. Of course, this requires a doctor to help you get an exemption from the current cultivation/possession laws. Last count that I saw, there were 200 Canadians who were exempt. They could grow and possess marijuana, just not sell it.

DUDE there IS a Cannabis Cup in Canada.. well it's the Quebec Cannabis Cup, it happens every year in November in Montreal! In a Heads issue (it's like high times a bit) I read up about this event...

i assure you that not all recreational drugs will be legalized. there will almost definately be broader use of medicinal cannabis, but complete legalization is still up in the air. they are considering de-criminalization, in which only a fine is handed out instead of formal drug charges for simple possession. cultivation laws are still questionable. but don't kid yourself, the war on drugs will be fought in Canada for a while yet.
