Quick Ballot Question
    #3298926 - 10/30/04 10:42 PM (13 years, 6 months ago)

If you are registered under a specific party, you must vote in your party for each office, right? So when the issue of county sheriff comes up, if there is no one in my party on the ballot, can I leave it blank or write something in? Because someone in my family said you can vote out of your party for little things like that and I don't think its true.

Ha yea otherwise they'd just tally which party had the most registered voters, cause voting would be pointless.

Ya, but then you have to figure in the people who are registered and "forget" to vote or just dont feel like it. Some registered people do actually skip certain elections

You can vote for anyone you want. The purpose of registering in a party is so that you can also vote in that party's primary election. Some states allow non-party registrants to also vote in party primaries but not many. In a great many local elections the party primaries are the only real elections because one party dominates completely.
