drying cyans and potency
    #3297785 - 10/30/04 04:44 PM (12 years, 10 months ago)

My friend told me when he would pick cyans and eat them fresh they are amazingly potent and that is the reaction that we got from fresh ones. But when you dry them they lose a HUGE amount of theyre potential. Is this true? He said this isnt the same with other mushrooms? Anyone wanna take a stab at this one

I heard they lose 30%, but not sure if it's true.

They lose there psilocin, which in cyans is about a 1/5 of psilocybin found in cyans. I don't know if beaostin degrades in drying. Psilocin converts to psilocybin in the liver, meaning technically yes, they are more potent fresh, but there is not as big as difference in wet, and dry cyans, compared to wet to dry beaos, or cyanfilbrossas.

Again... No.
That's backwards. Psilocybin converts to Psilocin, psilocin is the chemical which can pass through the blood brain barrier. Without psilocin there is no trip. However, psilocin is unstable and does degrade, the general idea you have there is correct.

I dunno I find that eating dried cyans is a different trip then fresh. The dry ones seem to have a much faster come up and a much more psychedelic trip, but this could be entirely because of dose stuff. The reaction that degrades psilocin is heat dependent, and requires oxygen, so drying shrooms in an oven will degrade potency a lot more then drying them with a fan and no heat. I think.

of course... never use heat to dry your mushrooms.. a fan and desiccant is the only way... lights, heat dehydrators, blow dryers, etc= kill potency

AGain? I'm sorry I wasn't aware I had been corrected prior to this, I guess I had it backwards, same process though.

Psilocybin is converted to psilocin. Psilocin is the version which is able to pass through the blood brain membrane.

Peace
