Why one big shroom?
    #3297611 - 10/30/04 03:50 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

I am about to harvest my very first flush tomorrow off of three pf cakes!!!!. Everything is going well but my only question is on two of those cakes, their are clusters of mushrooms growing (about ten on each not including aborts).  But on the third their is just one big mushroom. I'm not complaining because this one mushroom is about 10 inches long and pretty hefty, but why no clusters and one big one?

Often happens on the first flush for some strains on tiny PF cakes. They are used to having more substrate to deal with and instinctively pump out large shrooms, but aren't able to support more than one or two per flush per cake. Keep exposing it to light and it should develope a pinset sooner or later.

There is a long known fact that shrooms compete for a given amount of nutes there is also the fact that the first ones to pin will take those nutes for that flush. So this all boils down to if all parameters are met fewer shrooms on a given amount of nutes will be larger than a huge flush which will be smaller in stature most often. This is why I almost always pick those early unavoidable volunteers, I call it sacrificing a few for the many, this actually increases yields when it's used appropriately. GL and welcome matticus

its all about sporematch and genetics - just try another sporematch or start using agar.

Thanks all!! The first flush was great! Got about 2 1/2 0s! Hyphae, does nutes mean nutrients, and thanks for the welcoming.
