70% isopropyl alchol wil it work?

once i get replys to this post im gona incubate a jar with a pf syinge (pf strain) and it has been used once before so i have to sterilize it but i only have 70% isopropyl alchol wit it work for sterilizing the needle? also my syringe isnt very spore packed (i got it with no visable dark clumps of spores in it) but once i shake it up i can see tiny bits of spores floating around in it do you think it will work very well?

Bring 1/3 of the needle to red glow in a alcohol lamp flame.
Even if there aren?t any clumps, there are enough spores in the syringe.

it sounds as if you're doing this ghetto style and may not have an alcohol lamp, bring the needle to the stove and place it wither in the flam (gas) or directly to the burner (electric) and let the needle get red hot, allow to air cool, go on from there. forget about the alcohol.

If you have some 70% then you can use that to make a lamp... just get a little glass jar or something that dont burn and u can use a rag or cotton rope or anything for the wick(something that do burn and will soak up the alchol quickly. When sterilizing i always use a homemade lamp and then cool it off with tissue soaked with alchol. havent had comtams yet. i dont think you will have a prob.

ok i just got done incubating i made a little lamp out of a baby food jar and a piece of a rag and i heated it till red then let it kool for a little bit then incubated. by the way i incubated on the rack pulled out of the oven i cleaned around it with some alchol tell me if i was sterile enuff

I think your straight... i do the same thing as you except for the oven thing.. idont bother with that, and i have never had a contamination prob so feel safe and cofident. goodluck

oh yeah and i also used whole brown rice and i boiled it for 1 hour 10 minutes

PF's syringes aren't densly packed with spores, but they don't need to be.  They work just fine as they are.  All you need is a few spores to germinate per jar, not hundreds.  I think that a darkly spored syringe is just a waste of spores.

I can see a world where this is no poverty and no war, I can also see us attacking that world because they would never expect it. :wink:
